Dr. Stone Author Boichi’s Sci-Fi Manga ‘Origin’ Gets Film Adaptation

Majestic Limited has struck an exclusive deal with Japanese manga plubisher Kondansha for a feature film adaptation of its Origin comic.

Origin was created by Boichi, who is also the artist for the hit manga series Dr. Stone. It also won the grand prize for manga at the 22nd Japan Media Arts Festival.

Origin is currently only printed outside Japan. The English translation will hit U.S. shelves in late November.

Josh Boone founded Majestic Limited along with Danny Chan and Darius Shahmir. Regarding the deal, Shahmir said:

We are extremely proud to be working with Kodansha and Boichi on ‘Origin.’

This project will redefine the boundaries of manga and entertainment while delivering an unforgettable experience to fans worldwide.

We believe this collaboration will leave an indelible mark on the industry and allow new ancillary avenues to open up along the way.

Meanwhile, the head of Kodansha’s rights and media business unit,Takami Yohei, said the following:

We are excited to bring a new form of ‘Origin,’ an amazing sci-fi story created by Boichi-sensei, to global audiences and to collaborate with Majestic, said Takami Yohei, head of Kodansha’s rights and media business unit.

MAL describes the plot of Origin as:

Tokyo, 2048. Japan is now connected to the entire northern hemisphere by the Eurasian Railroad, and all manner of crime and vice pour into the megalopolis at its eastern terminus.

Little do people know that inhuman beings live among us, however—robots with high-level AI who will kill to survive. Only one “man” can stop them—their prototype: ORIGIN.
