I Didn’t Have A Single Clue Of Her Age, Says One Piece Animator On The Bonney Controversy
While animators tend to rant about online harassment, KDA relished watching viewers break down over what many consider a minor issue.
A freelance animator under the name @kda_artist on Twitter was harassed by fans on Jan 14, 2024, for merely being a part of the team that animated the controversial Bonney scenes in One Piece episode 1090.
Some Twitter users even went so far as to threaten the animator’s life or damnation for sexualizing a 12-year-old imaginary animated character.
However, the animator himself confessed that he was unaware of Bonney’s actual age while he was working on those scenes, which is something these fans were unaware of.

While animators tend to vent out their frustration for getting harassed, KDA, on the other hand, simply enjoyed watching fans break down on what many think to be a trivial issue.

Other fans who supported the animator wasted no time opposing these harassers by saying the dude is just doing his job, animating what Oda has already drawn.
So, if anyone is to blame, it was Oda, according to these fans.
In Nov 2024, Oda revealed the real age of Bonney to be 12 years old while narrating her backstory in Chapter 1098. And fans took to social media to show their frustration and disgust over the matter, slandering the author.
As the anime continues to adapt the Egghead island arc, Bonney, as a character, will continue to be in the zone of controversy as animators have to portray the character as intended by Oda in the manga.
