My Hero Academia Author Pays Homage To Akira Toriyama!

Recently on Twitter, the volume cover for Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia Volume 40 surfaced, featuring weakened All Might staring down at All for One.

This is a clear homage to one of the most memorable artworks on the Chapter 309 cover of the Dragon Ball manga by Akira Toriyama.

About My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia is a manga series written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine, Weekly Shōnen Jump, since July 2014, with its chapters additionally collected into 39 tankōbon volumes as of November 2023.

It inspired many spin-off manga, including My Hero Academia: Smash!!, Vigilantes, and Team-Up Missions. Besides light novels, stage plays, and souvenirs, the franchise has produced many video games.

Studio Bones produced the first season from April to June 2016, a second from April to September 2017, a third from April to September 2018, a fourth from October 2019 to April 2020, a fifth from March to September 2021, a sixth from October 2022 to March 2023, and a seventh that is currently in production.

It has three animated films, My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, Heroes Rising, and World Heroes’ Mission, plus nine original video animations. The fourth animated film and a live-action Legendary Entertainment film are currently being planned.

About Dragon Ball:

Dragon Ball is a manga series by Akira Toriyama. It first began its serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1984.

The manga was later adapted into a multitude of animated series, movies, and games.

The franchise consists of five different anime series, about 21 animated movies, and around 10 games spanning various platforms, from Famicon to Playstation and Xbox.

Synopsis of the Dragon Ball anime:

Goku Son is a young boy who lives in the woods all alone—that is, until a girl named Bulma runs into him in her search for a set of magical objects called the “Dragon Balls.”

Since the artefacts are said to grant one wish to whoever collects all seven, Bulma hopes to gather them and wish for a perfect boyfriend.

Goku happens to be in possession of a dragon ball, but unfortunately for Bulma, he refuses to part ways with it, so she makes him a deal: he can tag along on her journey if he lets her borrow the dragon ball’s power.

With that, the two set off on the journey of a lifetime.
