Endeavor’s Last Message To His Kids In My Hero Academia Tells You Everything About His Redemption Arc!
It’s also safe to say that this is the DEFINITIVE CONCLUSION to the whole Todoroki family drama.
Warning: The following article contains major spoilers from My Hero Academia manga. Read ahead at your own discretion!
Since the announcement that My Hero Academia will end in 5 chapters, the entire shonen fandom has their eyes on the series, wondering how Horikoshi will end what is considered to be one of the biggest shonen series in modern times.
Chapter 426 is the beginning of that end. And it focuses on the conclusion of the Todoroki family drama.
Now, I know some fans might think, “How long is Horikoshi going to drag this?? It seems longer than an Indian serial drama at this point”. Trust me when I say this, as a casual fan of My Hero Academia myself, Endeavor’s conclusive message to Todoroki, Dabi and his other kids will leave a tear or two in your eyes.
It’s also safe to say that this is the DEFINITIVE CONCLUSION to the whole Todoroki family drama. Now how did it end?
How does Endeavor plan to redeem himself?
Endeavor told his kids that he doesn’t expect them to be in touch with him and that he will do everything he can to ensure that none of them suffer the consequences of the whole Dabi fiasco.
Chapter 426 began with the entire Todoroki family meeting each other in the hospital. Everyone’s all busted up after the whole war (of which the conclusion got off screened LOL). Rei has serious burns on her face, Fuyumi has a few, Natsu got a haircut and Endeavor is all bandaged up.
Despite what the #1 hero said during his fight with Dabi, everyone’s still not satisfied and rightly so.
In their eyes, Bro is basically irredeemable at this point. He largely ignored his other children—Fuyumi, Natsuo, and Toya (Dabi)—once he deemed them unfit for his plans. Toya, in particular, suffered greatly from this neglect, as he had a strong fire quirk but was physically unable to handle it, leading to severe burns and eventually his transformation into the villain Dabi.
As a result, each of Endeavor’s children was affected differently. Fuyumi and Natsuo, Shoto’s older siblings, were largely neglected as Endeavor focused on Shoto. Natsuo, in particular, harbors deep resentment towards his father for the pain he caused their mother and the neglect they all suffered.
The most tragic outcome befell Toya, who Endeavor’s training pushed past his limits and left him presumed dead after an accident.
However, Shoto tries his best to help his father reconcile everything, hence his presence at the hospital. He says that he has come to fulfill his mission and that the same goes for the rest of the family.
This means that Dabi is STILL ALIVE! And Endeavor had been planning to talk to him before the war began. But Dabi didn’t buy any of it. He straight up said it’s too easy to say sorry and give attention after everything’s done and dusted.
Nevertheless, Endeavor feels he must be doing something to change things. So he affirms that he should talk to everyone every day, especially Dabi.
This has never happened before, considering Endeavor is a man of few words.
But the manga shows a beautiful contrast of past and present Endeavor and Toya and it measures Toya’s heartbeat. This indicates that he wants to forgive his father and become his son once again but can he trust him?
Shoto gives him that nudge by asking him a question nobody has ever asked him “What’s your favorite food?”
“S-Soba”, Dabi says and proceeds to cry in front of Shoto.
This is the love and affection Toya needed from his father. Bare minimum. Hell, he didn’t even get this kind treatment from the villains. But the fact that this one question was able to melt him shows how many layers of masks he had been wearing to hide his TRUE feelings.
Sure Dabi is announced to be dying soon, but atleast he got back his family he deserved.
Watching his children come in some sort of terms with one another, Endeavor vowed to pay and apologize for his crimes for the rest of his life.
He hasn’t revealed his plan of action, but he affirms that he will do everything he can to ensure that none of them suffer the consequences like Dabi. Also, he says he doesn’t mind if his children don’t speak to him henceforth.
It feels like Endeavor realizes he needs to set his Karma straight. He had been reaping in bad Karma through his sinful activities by abusing his wife and children to satisfy his selfish desires. Now, he’s trying to be selfless and aims to atone for those sins without expecting anything in return.
THIS IS HUGE FOR ENDEAVOR, CONSIDERING HIS WHOLE LIFE HAS BEEN TOTALLY SELFISH!
The whole scene is pretty touching, now that Endeavor has decided to retire and do what needs to be done (whatever that is). And this will be the last time we see Endeavor’s sorry face again.
Hopefully.
