Jujutsu Kaisen: Author Gege Akutami Reveals The Reason For Culling Games!
While the arc didn’t pan out exactly like how Gege had envisioned, it did give us an amazing arc filled with insane battles!
During a recent interview, the author of the Jujutsu Kaisen Manga, Gege Akutami answered numerous questions related to the series. One such question was about the Culling Games.
Q: As you approached the turning point that is the Culling Game arc, did you roughly have a concept of what it would be like?
A: “I thought of it as a crutch for taking us towards the Inhumane Makyo Shinjuku arc (final section/saga). I had already decided on the things that had to happen (like characters and Colony stuff) but I kept each Colony segment contained to be its own individual volume, and thought about how to make them as exciting as possible as I progressed. I remember having a discussion with my Editor about how it’d be nice if each Volume should be like its own sort of album”.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami.
It has been serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine, Weekly Shōnen Jump, since March 2018, with its chapters collected and published in 27 tankōbon volumes as of July 2024.
Studio MAPPA brought the world of JJK into anime by airing 24 episodes of season 1 from October 2020 to March 2021 and a second season that premiered in July 2023. A sequel covering the “Culling Game” arc has been announced.

Yuji Itadori is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life.

From then on, he shares one body with Ryomen Sukuna.
Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Satoru Gojo, Itadori is admitted to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an organization that fights the curses… and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a curse to exorcise a curse, a life from which he could never turn back.
