Deku and Uraraka’s relationship came on leaps and bounds in Chapter 342 and now, during the epilogue, it is coming in full circle!
Today, we take a deeper look into Deku X Uraraka and how it fits into the core thematic structure of the My Hero storyline.
Aside from… you know… you degenerates thinking Uraraka is EXTRA THICCCC!
Uraraka helping Deku get into UA High
We all know that when Midoriya initially arrived at UA, Uraraka was the first person he met. He felt she was cute, but because he is the main character in an anime, he finds it difficult to talk to any girls at this stage.
However, he later saved her in the entrance exam, and she repays the favor by ensuring that he lands safely on the ground after rescuing her.
As a result of this, the two of them became good friends and later classmates. Deku always used to get flustered but after gaining a drip, he became a chad.
Why Deku X Uraraka makes sense as opposed to other ships
Aside from all that, one reason why it makes sense for her to be a love interest for Deku thematically is the fact that she was the one who turned his previously negative identity as “Deku” into a positive attribute, and one that ultimately shaped who he is as a hero.
She was the one who told Deku that his name gave her “never give up” vibes, which was a feature of his which not only inspired her, but also contributed towards Uraraka falling in love with him.
Deku is a character who is dedicated to his goals and has a dream that he wants to realize.
This ambition entails becoming the world’s greatest hero, rescuing lives, and mastering his quirks. In comparison to other heroes, which the latest events of the story have established is not the case.
Not all heroes have such a desire, and thus, these three qualities give him a sense of purpose and an irrepressible drive that cement Deku’s status as one of the only true heroes and the one who will spearhead the next generation.
Even Chapter 342 reiterated that many heroes are quitting their job when a great calamity has befallen the world, instead of rising up to save the people they promised to protect.
Uraraka is one of these people that Deku has inspired as the series has progressed. Her first goal in seasons 1 and 2 was to simply earn money to help her family, which, I mean… we can all get behind, I think.
Uraraka saving Deku from his Dark Deku phase saved the Heroes from AFO and Shigaraki
In the current manga chapters, we observe her character evolving significantly, inspired by Deku’s determination to help others and make a difference.
Back in chapter 323, Deku was denied entry to UA as civilians, fearing for their own safety, refused to support him since he was targeted by the enemy. Despite his noble intentions, Deku found himself shunned by society due to their self-centered fears.
It was Uraraka who managed to sway public opinion. Deku, standing in disbelief, saw the extent to which Uraraka and others had gone to protect him.
Her efforts successfully brought out the best in the civilians Deku had previously saved, leading them to rally behind her and support Deku.
If it wasn’t for Uraraka, Deku wouldn’t have come back and helped the rest of the heroes defeat the villains. If it wasn’t for Uraraka, Deku wouldn’t have stood up against Shigaraki and All For One in the final war arc.
If it wasn’t for Uraraka, Deku would never have trained or built enough to use the quirks of other One for All Users. If it wasn’t for Uraraka, Deku would never get strong enough to kill All for One and save planet Earth from his viciousness.
You get the drill…
The Development of Uraraka’s feelings for Deku and what it means for her
Uraraka continued to project her feelings to the crowd so that they could see them from her point of view, reassuring them that the heroes would shoulder the burden alone for their safety as long as they can give them time.
She uses honesty to relay justice, as their safety cannot be guaranteed and even the heroes are scared too. But, as we have mentioned in previous videos, these little imperfections, which in theory would go against everything we’ve come to understand about what makes a true hero, are, in fact, not true.
Uraraka having the confidence to not only grow as a human being but to also save Deku is all because of the impact he had on her because of the bond the two have. Like we mentioned, Uraraka saw Deku’s ‘never give up’ attitude, and she felt enamored by it.
She went from wanting to be a hero for money, to being a hero that saves others, despite their own insecurities. We saw in a flashback of Uraraka that money isn’t always the driving force behind her heroic desires, but seeing others smile was. Paralleling what Deku wants, which he helped reignite in her.
Deku stated this once himself, after saving Eri, that he will do whatever it takes to protect the smiles of those he has to save.
In a way, when both of them were straying away from what being a hero meant, it was the other who brought them back.
When Deku was hitting his lowest point, he was shouldering the burden he had been dealt with all alone, shutting himself away from others. It was she who not only helped bring back his senses and remind him of the hero he wants to be, but also changed the perspective of those around them.
Eradicated any selfish desires, instead replacing them with selfless ones.
