Dragon Ball Daima’s Story WILL BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT From Dragon Ball GT, Affirms Producer Akio Iyoku
On paper, it looks similar. But Daima’s impact in the Dragon Ball world and its storyline will be more profound and meaningful than GT.
After watching the first trailer of Dragon Ball Daima, a lot of fans, and I mean, A LOT, thought that Daima is just Toriyama’s version of Dragon Ball GT, a non-canon series made by Toei Animation in 1996.
The reason behind this comparison is, Pilaf accidentally wishes for Goku to become a kid again and travels around the universe with Trunks and Pan in search of the Black Star Dragon Balls.
In Daima, some unknown character uses the Earth’s Dragon Balls to wish for everyone in Goku’s circle to become kids, a scenario arising out of a conspiracy. Goku and the Supreme Kai travel to various realms, including the Demon Realm, in search of the conspirator.
So this is the Dragon Ball Daima that everyone's losing their minds about?? This is literally Dragon Ball GT but with EVERYONE as kids NOT just Goku!
No thanks I'm gonna stick with the OG GT. pic.twitter.com/B1bMDrts64

On paper, it looks similar. But the execution and Daima’s impact in the Dragon Ball world and its storyline will be more profound and meaningful than GT. And I’m not just referring to Daima’s canonicity.
Toriyama mentioned that this would be a whole new Dragon Ball that folks have never seen before and the story will unravel the mysteries of the Dragon Ball world he has already created.
Further proof comes from Dragon Ball producer and Capsule Corporation Tokyo founder Akio Iyoku, who used to be Toriyama’s right-hand man when he was heading the Dragon Ball room at Shueisha.
In reply to CBR’s question on how Dragon Ball Daima’s story will be different from Dragon Ball GT, Iyoku-san knew that fans would think of GT when Goku became small in Daima, but he absolutely assures that Dragon ball Daima is a whole different story from GT and asks fans to judge the story for themselves after the series comes out.
But until then, he can’t reveal the plot just yet so that everybody can enjoy discussing and thinking about it, thereby building anticipation for Daima’s release in October 2024.
The exact Question and Answer between CBR and Akio Iyoku is as follows:
Q: Though both Dragon Ball DAIMA and Dragon Ball GT start with Goku becoming small, it’s very clear that this is its own story and very different from GT. How did you want to be sure to differentiate from GT and tell this story?
A: I understand that, looking at Goku being small, you would think of GT. A lot of people are thinking, “Maybe Goku is young again, like from [GT].” We want to emphasize that this is a whole different story. We would like everyone to think about it and have their own thoughts on what the story is, but with the first teaser from today, we’re keeping it all hush-hush so that everybody is enjoying it and thinking about it. That’s where we’re at right now.
Despite the lack of promotion for Daima, Bandai Namco UK’s Brand Manager affirms that the new series will have a lot of surprises in store for both new and old fans alike.
Dragon Ball Daima was first announced at New York Comic Con 2023 where they revealed the first trailer and the 2nd trailer was unveiled at the DRAGON BALL Game Battle Hour 2024 event in Jan 2024. On July 19, the 3rd trailer was dropped by the Dragon Ball official site.
Meanwhile, check out the plot leaks we’ve identified so far for the upcoming series by clicking here!
According to rumors, Dragon Ball Daima will run for 20 odd episodes and the singer for Dragon Ball’s 1st opening theme “Makafushigi Adventure!, Hiroki Takahashi, will sing the opening theme song for the upcoming series.
About Dragon Ball:
Dragon Ball is a manga series by Akira Toriyama. It first began its serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1984.
The manga was later adapted into a multitude of animated series, movies, and games.
The franchise consists of five different anime series, about 21 animated movies, and around 10 games spanning various platforms, from Famicon to Playstation and Xbox.
Synopsis of the Dragon Ball anime:
Goku Son is a young boy who lives in the woods all alone—that is, until a girl named Bulma runs into him in her search for a set of magical objects called the “Dragon Balls.”
Since the artefacts are said to grant one wish to whoever collects all seven, Bulma hopes to gather them and wish for a perfect boyfriend.
Goku happens to be in possession of a dragon ball, but unfortunately for Bulma, he refuses to part ways with it, so she makes him a deal: he can tag along on her journey if he lets her borrow the dragon ball’s power.
With that, the two set off on the journey of a lifetime.
