One Piece Live-Action began with Gol D. Roger’s execution, as it did in the anime and manga. However, the live-action adaptation brought out many interesting cameos of characters important to the future, such as Mihawk and Smoker. The live-action will do the same again but with an unexpected face.

Through the One Piece Netflix fan account, we learn that Nahum Hughes will be cast as Bartolomeo, one of the members of Luffy’s Straw Hat Grand Fleet formed at the end of the Dressrosa Saga.

There is further corroboration from the actor adding the role to his CV.

However, it is noted that as of writing this, the casting has yet to be acknowledged by any official account.

Although primarily featured in the post-timeskip Dressrosa Arc, Bartolomeo made an early pre-timeskip cameo in the Loguetown Arc. Buggy’s attempted execution of Luffy has been cited to be the moment Bartolomeo became a fan of the Straw Hat Pirates and their adventures.

It is likely that this will be a cameo appearance, though the possibility of an added plot remains to be seen.

Another unofficial casting announcement was for Vavin Gomes for the role of “Heavy-Point Chopper”, which is Tony Tony Chopper’s primary human form.

As there are no clear details on how Chopper would be adapted into the Live Action format, it is unknown if Gavin will be a stunt double or provide a voice for Heavy Point Chopper. Of note, Gavin has credentials as a stunt performer.

One Piece remains the top-selling manga of all time. Eiichiro Oda writes the story of a boy named Luffy, a “Rubber Man” with the power of the Devil Fruit and with the will to become the King of the Pirates by finding the legendary treasure, the One Piece.
