Naruto 25th Anniversary Plans Revealed

The Naruto manga celebrates its 25th anniversary with a bang, from a special manga PV to freebies!

Naruto is one of Weekly Shonen Jump’s so-called “Big Three” and has brought the Ninja Way into the hearts of millions worldwide.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Naruto manga, we see a special trailer containing the most pivotal manga panels of the series.

The trailer begins with a shot of Boruto, Naruto and Minato and a Rasengan formed from Naruto’s eye that begins falling down.

We see the Uzumaki spiral form around an aerial view of the Hidden Leaf Village, akin to a water ripple, along with shots of a young Minato forming the 

Eventually, we see the Leaf mark on young Naruto’s palm, which Jiraiya drew to help him focus on his chakra during the Rasengan training.

We list down the most pivotal moments and heartwrenching quotes, starting with Iruka saving Naruto from Mizuki in Chapter 1, his battles with Zabuza Momochi and Haku, the Chunin Exam rivals Neji Hyuga and Gaara, and leading into the first battle in the Final Valley between Naruto and Sasuke.

This is followed by Jiraiya and his bond with Naruto until his death, Naruto’s fight against Pain, Naruto’s parents and birth, and joining forces with the Nine-Tails Kurama as a comrade, leading into the battle against Obito Uchiha the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki, and Naruto and Sasuke’s final battle.

The trailer concludes with Chapter 700 and the Seventh Hokage Naruto catching his son Boruto painting graffiti on the Hokage mountain.

The Naruto manga began on October 13, 1999 and ended on 2014, a 15-year run with 700 chapters and 72 volumes.

There are more features and plans to celebrate the 25th anniversary in the official Naruto website.

When you begin to open the webpage, you will see a countdown from 1999 to 2024, from young Naruto to the Seventh Hokage and it ends with a collage of some of the most iconic moments of Part I of the Naruto manga.

Freebies for Fans

Various Naruto franchise volumes are for FREE from September 21, 2024 until October 13, 2024, all in Japanese.

The Minato one-shot “Naruto Gaiden: A Whirlwind in a Vortex” is available for free in the Shueisha website and Shonen Jump Plus App, as well as the official website.

For the original Naruto manga, a selection of 25 volumes is available on the Shueisha website and Shonen Jump Plus App.

According to the Shonen Jump Plus App, there are seven groups of volumes available for free:

  • Volumes 1 to 10 (Chapters 1 to 90)

Volumes 1 to 10 cover the Prologue – the Land of Waves Arc (Chapters 1-33), and majority of the Chunin Exams Arc (34 to 90) up to the point before Naruto meets Jiraiya for the first time. A strong way to start an anniversary read, covering the first major milestones of the protagonists.

  • Volume 15 (Chapters 145-153)

This covers Itachi Uchiha’s pursuit of Naruto, his reunion with his vengeful brother Sasuke, and the start to both Naruto learning the Rasengan and the search for Tsunade.

  • Volumes 21 to 22 (Chapters 181 to 199)

This covers the middle part of the Sasuke Recovery Mission Arc (where Sasuke left the Leaf Village to train under Orochimaru), beginning with the defeat of Jirobo, one of Orochimaru’s Sound Five and Choji Akimichi’s opponent, to the introduction of Kimimaro, the hidden member of the Sound Five.

  • Volumes 28 to 31 (Chapters 245-280)

This covers the start of “Part II” or Naruto Shippuden with the entirety of the Kazekage Rescue Mission Arc, beginning with Naruto’s return to the Leaf Village after his two and a half years of training to the rescue of the Fifth Kazekage Gaara from the Akatsuki.

  • Volumes 41 to 42 (Chapters 370 to 389)

This covers the Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant Arc, focusing on the battle between Jiraiya and the Akatsuki leader Pain all the way to the beginning of the Fated Clash Between Brothers Arc, the final fight between Sasuke and Itachi Uchiha.

  • Volumes 53 to 55 (Chapters 495 to 524)

This covers the start of the lengthy saga of the Fourth Great Ninja War, specifically the Taming of the Nine Tails and Fateful Encounters Arc, where we see the birth of Naruto and the Nine Tails attack on the Leaf Village until the actual start of the Fourth Great Ninja War itself.

  • Volumes 65 to 67 (Chapters 618 to 647)

This continues the Climax of the Fourth Great Ninja War, beginning with the backstory of the legendary founders of the Leaf, Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha, until the revival of the Divine Tree by the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki Obito Uchiha.

These volumes total 234 free chapters out of the 700 chapters of the original Naruto manga, showing a selection of some of the most iconic moments of the 25 year old manga.

Meanwhile, Boruto and Boruto: Two Blue Vortex’s first volumes are free to read on the Shueisha website and Shonen Jump Plus App.

Additionally, two chibi spin-offs by Kenji Taira will be free as well. Volumes 1 and 2 of the chibi spin-off series, “Rock Lee no Seishun Full-Power Ninden” and Volume 1 of “The Legend of Sasuke Uchiha’s Sharingan” are also free on Shueisha website and Shonen Jump Plus App.
