On October 4, 2024 it was announced that Tessho Genda, the voice actor for Kaido, would retire from voice acting due to his health.

Tessho Ganda has also voiced Kurama the Nine-Tailed Fox in Naruto and Younger Toguro in yu Yu Hakusho.

In July 2024, Genda has also stated that he was unwell and so would have his current roles replaced by someone else and he has since been on hiatus.

On October 4, 2024, it was announced that the voice for Jango, the former Black Cat Pirate Hypnotist turned Marine, would be Wataru Takagi (Obito Uchiha, Okuyasu, Kaiman) due to his voice actor, Kazuki Yao, facing health concerns.

Kazuki Yao is known prominently as the voice of Franky, as well as Bon Clay and other minor characters.

As to whether he will resume his other roles, including Franky, that has yet to be seen.

It was mentioned in the Japanese site Josei Jishin that as early as Episode 1090, fans have noticed a change in the way Yao delivered his lines as Franky. The article reads:

“There was a spectacular scene where, although he hesitated to pilot the ship in rough seas, he decided to go and rescue his comrades, saying, ‘I’ve got to do it.’ However, contrary to the movements in the anime, he seemed to be slurring his words. Some viewers found it difficult to hear the lines.”
