Dragon Ball Daima Realm Explained

Akira Toriyama introduced the idea of “Daima” to mean “Evil” and it is this evil that will revert Goku and friends into their smaller or younger selves.

The story of Dragon Ball Daima takes place some time after the death of Kid Buu at Trunks’ Birthday Party. Trunks is turning 9 years old, and so they need to celebrate.

However, this is not the story of Dragon Ball Super but an alternate route, one that directly connects to the end of the Buu Saga.

We are introduced to three new characters who have connections with the Majin

This means that after the Buu Saga, Toriyama intends to delve deep into the Majin world, a realm that is not as thoroughly explored in the main canon.

Although explored in Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Dark Demon Realm Mission, we might delve into a different side that is more connected to Toriyama’s canon

The Demon Realm is different from Hell, which has been more extensively covered in the main series, such as in Super, where Frieza, Cell and other wicked beings have been sent to as judged by King Yemma in the Check-In Station.

The Demon Realm is the mirror of the known universe (at least for Universe 7), which in turn is separate from the otherworld, Earth and the realm of the Kais, hence why the Kais treat the Majin as mortal enemies and why they could not access that point.

However, a key note is that we did see a glimpse into it, as in the original Dragonball anime, where Kid Goku found an entrance to it.

Even though it’s not in the manga, Goku did travel to the demon land to confront Shula and save princess Misa in a story from early Dragon Ball.

Goku was after all inspired by Sun Wukong, who happens to be a demon that became a demon hunter in the classic tale of the Journey to the West.

With the Buu Saga, we also see a dichotomy between good and evil, between the forces of the Kais and the Majin, which was before the introduction of the Gods of Destruction in Super.

The Daima (demon) realm is a mirror world that was home to the Majin and it is here that Majin Buu was born, possibly before the creation of Universe 7.

In the same saga, Dabura was our first impression of what demons look like in Dragon Ball Z and if you notice, his skin is near the same shade as Majin Buu.

He even asked for the terrain to look like the demon realm in his fight against Gohan which gave us an idea as to how this place looks.

Apart from this, we also have a lot of non-canon material covering the Demon World.

The Dragon Ball Heroes mentions how before Age 850 the demon realm was sealed away and if it was ever broken, chaos would erupt in the universe.

This could link to the idea that the Majin have inherently dark energy that could corrupt living beings or have adverse effects, such as the Z Gang turning into children.

This could be due to how magic overwhelms the laws of science in the Daima Realm.

In Xenoverse 2, the Supreme Kai of Time says that the demon realm is at ‘the end of the universe’, which explains why the Kais cannot reach them.

Within this infinitely sized space, the Demons have their own supreme kai or Hakaioshin, possessing more unique powers like regeneration, immense ki, different transformation and similar powers to Majin Buu.

Toriyama stated that the ma-kaioshin are originally Supreme Kai but are born evil and eventually go to the demon realm. In other words, they are mirrored Supreme Kais from an inverse world.

Going into the Super manga, Buu’s unique evil energy makes him immune to Moro’s energy absorption magic and Moro nearly killed Goku and Vegeta.

With this unique dark energy, this means that our characters will not be able to just punch thei way through that easily and will need to uncover the secrets of the Majin land.

Considering the premise of Daima being the characters getting smaller, this gives Toei and Toriyama the opportunity to level the playing field and even allow Goku and Vegeta to play smart, rather than hard like they usually do.
