Bleach: Ranking Every Soul King Part

The Soul King’s parts are not all created equal but they warp the reality of the Bleach universe in more ways than we realize.

With the anime showing us Mimihagi for the first time, Bleach is about to begin expanding the lore on the Soul King and his missing body parts.

The Soul King’s body parts have defined the plot of Bleach in more ways than one and we are just getting started.

From the manga canon to the Bleach light novels, let us explore which Soul King fragment is the strongest.

6. Fullbringers (Nails)

Fullbringers

In Ryoga Narita’s novel, “Bleach: Can’t Fear Your Own World”,  it is revealed that every Fullbringer has a nail or fragment of the Soul King’s body and that fragment is what gives rise to their unique powers and the Hollows that attack them during their conception were just attracted to the Fragments.

It makes sense as many of the Fullbring shown throughout the series have powers connected to their desires and the ability to warp reality.

This also implies even Ichigo had a Fragment of the Soul King to make him a Fullbringer, though the nature of this Fragment is theoretical, although the unique nature of White and the emergence of Old Man Zangetsu may indicate either a different logic behind Ichigo’s Fullbring or were further awakened because of Ichigo’s body possessing a Fragment.

The same novel also confirms that Orihime is a Fullbringer.

What limits their power is their human bodies. Since they do not assume their konpaku or spiritual bodies while alive, Fullbringers

Although the dead Fullbringers have shown great feats in the Bleach light novel, the manga canon does not allow them that much luxury, unless the anime will expand on their involvement as in Chapter 529: “The Shooting Star Project (ZERO MIX)”, they were hinted to join the fight against Yhwach anyway.

As a hybrid and Soul King Candidate, Kugo Ginjo could be considered a unique case among the Fullbringers, as on top of being a Fullbringer who gained the Reiatsu of a Shinigami as the first Substitute Shinigami, he absorbed Ichigo’s Fullbring, which contained Ichigo’s Hollow powers as well.

5. Mimihagi (Right Arm of Stillness)

The first official Soul King part the fandom meets in Chapter 614, the Right Arm of Stillness, the Rukongai deity Mimihagi, has the ability to stop the progress or growth of something, such as a disease.

This ability acts as the counterpart to the Left Arm of Progress that controls evolution and bodily growth.

However, the right arm has been dormant for millennia, only granting boons in exchange for consuming bodies, which might as well be its only means of sustaining its dwindling power.

Although immune to the foresight or control of the Almighty, Mimihagi is a much weaker part of Adnyeus, as while it attempted to consume Yhwach, the part ultimately was absorbed into Yhwach’s being along with the original Soul King.

4. Aura Michibane (Saketsu)

Although exclusive to the “Can’t Fear Your Own World” story, Aura qualifies as a bearer of the Soul King’s Saketsu or his Soul Chain.

Powerful enough to match captain-level fighters like Kisuke Urahara and the Sternritter remnants, she has immense Reiatsu compared to any Fullbringer or even a hybrid like Ginjo.

While stronger than any Fullbringer, Aura lacked any strong attachment to objects due to her restrictive upbringing but instead is able to manipulate the souls of any matter, such as air, earth, blood, and bone.

This results in feats such as becoming intangible or having the means to regenerate any injuries, up to decapitation and even the creation of a Nitrogen Barrier that can even dispel incredibly powerful kido like Hadō #91. Senju Kōten Taihō.

3. Gremmy Thoumeaux (Brain)

gremmy brain

Although there is no confirmation that Gremmy is the Brain of the Soul King itself, the fact that his true form is only a brain might be all the proof we need of his unique Quincy nature, just as Pernida and Gerard have unusual bodies.

Gremmy’s Schrift, V “The Visionary”, is quite thematically appropriate for a servant of A “The Almighty” that envisions and controls all futures.

With the Visionary, Gremmy can make any thought in his brain-body a reality, from creating machine guns out of thin air to creating life, such as Guenael Lee and Sternritter Sigma Shaz Domino.

However, his limit is the imagination, as he can still be wounded and he could imagine himself dying or losing as a fleeting thought.

Maybe Gremmy has not watched enough cartoons, which is why Gremmy did not imagine a vaporizing beam to reduce his opponents to atoms.

One of the ironies of the fight against Kenpachi Zaraki is how the two are thematically positioned.

After recalling the full, limitless potential he possessed and finally hearing Nozarashi’s name, Kenpachi had no limits in fighting the boy with limitless imagination.

However, in imitating Kenpachi, Gremmy lacked the creativity to build a body to contain Kenpachi’s power and so he loses it, rendering only an immobile brain.

2. Pernida Parkngjas (Left Arm of Progress)

As one of the only two Sternritters without a Schrift, Pernida is actually a part of the Soul King that was somehow made into a Quincy.

While the manga did not elaborate on how Yhwach came across Pernida, in Episode 24 of TYBW, we see the Left Arm of Progress held by Ichibe Hyousube after the latter visited and sealed Yhwach’s Almighty using the Soul King’s Left Arm.

The Arm would be in Yhwach’s possession and likely either merged with or became a Quincy, which made it identify strongly as a Quincy while Mimihagi silently maintained its role as part of the dying Soul King.

As the Left Arm of Progress, Pernida controlled Evolution, which meant that as time passed, Pernida would mature in terms of physical power and mental awareness.

Initially, Pernida did not communicate outside of its eyes and gestures but through its intense battle with Mayuri Kurotsuchi, Pernida could act independently like any sentient being.

The key to Pernida’s evolution is its extended nerves that allow Pernida to learn at an unnatural rate.

The nerves extend out of its fingers to manipulate the environment and other lifeforms, as well as imitate its opponents to a certain degree, such as the skin-shedding ability of Mayuri’s Modified Bankai: Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō: Matai Fukuin Shōtai.

Through its extended nerves, Pernida can either control, destroy or consume its opponents, all to gain the biomass needed to grow, regenerate or extend its powers, such that Pernida can produce sentient clones of itself that can operate independently and seemingly never die.

It took consuming the self-destructing Nemu Kurotsuchi to end the Compulsory’s reign of terror.

1. Gerard Valkyrie (Heart)

gerard heart

Possessing the “Miracle”, Gerard Valkyrie could be considered the strongest Quincy outside Yhwach himself due to its almost infinite vitality.

The “Miracle” grants him two major abilities: the ability to convert damage into his “Godly Size” to grow to massive proportions, and the ability to realize the impossible, such as being able to detect small or hidden Reiatsu, as well as reflect damage through his Hoffnung.

In a battle against half of the current Gotei 13, he was able to defeat them until he fell through the combined effort of Toshiro Hitsugaya’s matured Bankai freezing his powers and body and Byakuya Kuchiki’s Senkei: Ikka Senjinka destroying his frozen head.

However, he would return in an even bigger form, this time as a faceless energy golem that did not speak and simply blasted everything in its path.

It only took Yhwach’s Auswahlen draining him of spiritual power to actually finish the job.

In Klub Outside Q&A No. 475, it is revealed that the Quincy Cross formed from his blood is the core of Gerard’s being, his true body if you will and this will continue to produce more bodies no matter how much it is destroyed and thus the only way to defeat Gerard is to destroy the extremely durable Quincy Cross
