Yes, Denji eats a tree and that is how he is able to move back in the real world.

In the previous Chainsaw Man chapter, Denji keeps running to make himself tired while Fujimoto uses the story to convey the idea of Denji’s rebellion against the existential Absurd.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 185 is titled, “Stomach in Another World.”

This chapter has 14 pages.

We finally have an idea of how the Aging Devil really works as a character.

The Aging Devil tells Denji that it has made no exits in this world because it wanted all the humans stuck in there to find hidden concepts beyond even what the devil could imagine.

However, the unexpected happened and people turned into trees.

What turns humans into trees is that they reach the very end of their thought process, unable to produce new concepts or meanings.

The Aging Devil’s goal was always to make everyone “mature” but throughout its long, aging life, it has always found disappointment that every living thing inside its world would never attempt to think outside the confines of their imaginations and thought spaces, only focused on escaping or despairing.

Spending one or two thousand years in the dimension created madness but rather than inspire the creativity the Aging Devil desired, it produced a forest of trees where humans would simply give up due to their own exhaustion.

As much as the Aging Devil wants to see humanity prosper, much like Makima the Control Devil, the Aging Devil cannot view humans outside of their logical or rational pragmatism.

Humans are meant to be of a higher potential or maximize their utilities, whether it is their usefulness or their functions, which implies that some devils like Makima and the Aging Devil actually worship humans as the creator of devils to a certain weird extent.

We cut back to the real world where the Aging Devil is sitting on the old former Minister of Finance, Tadashi Hasegawa, who promises to lead the world in the right direction if only he lived longer.

The old man is sacrificing his health and body for the opportunity of the Aging Devil being eaten to erase the concept of aging and to give everyone eternal agelessness, especially men like Hasegawa who seem themselves as being beholden to some great purpose.

With this position, we see a reaffirmation that in spite of a devil’s appreciation for humanity, humans only have value when they apply themselves and outside of that, they become trees that can be ignored and left alone.

The Aging Devil represents the cultural pressure of every Japanese person to perform their duties and potentialities to their utmost, even to the point of living long, painful lives.

What Happens When Aging is Gone?

A Reddit user posted on how the Aging Devil is just playing with Japan to fulfill its death desire, being tired of humanity’s frailty and its own boredom, while maximizing the suffering of those alive.

Do people realize that Aging Devil is playing Japan?

With aging gone, even though people will not fear growing old, they will start to experience an even worse phenomenon: extinction.

The problem is that aging does not begin or end with…old age.

This is not the “Old Age” Devil.

This is the Aging Devil, a being whose fear exists as far back as children not wanting to grow up into teenagers or even get another year older.

If aging stops, humanity will cease to exist in the coming years, which is exactly what is feared to happen in Japan.

The declining population IS the death of the Aging Devil itself.

Not only would humans stop growing old but growing, period.

Fetuses would be stillborn and eventually, the human population would be unable to fill up.

Most of all, this will make the population stagnate.

This is the irony of the Aging Devil.

It believes that by halting the process of aging, humans will be able

The Aging Devil sees its own existence as unnecessary to its desired perception of humanity as a master race yet in that self-invalidation, the Aging Devil seeks out humanity’s greatest suffering, a slow death.

In another reddit post, we see someone apply the Aging Devil as part of a sociology lesson to demonstrate the actual aging crisis in Japan.

LOL. The Aging Devil Was Used In a Sociology Lecture!

The class explains how the Aging Devil represents both the fear of aging but also the very attitude of the elderly themselves as they lose attachment to life the more they age., such that there is an increase in suicides from seniors, which the Aging Devil also expresses in its desire to be eaten by Chainsaw Man.

However, at the same time, this same figure that embodies the elderly is also sitting on two young people, showing its own ephebiphobia (the fear/hatred of youths).

Both the youth throne and the sacrifice of 10,000 young children exemplify how the elderly take away the right of the youth to make changes and choices and instead use the children for their gratification and ego.

Now we have an old man taking the place of youths as the Aging Devil’s throne, representing the Aging Devil’s disdain over the tree effect, the way that humans will ultimately be stuck in that “aged” state.

Denji’s Disgusting Plan

Yep, the whole point was not to make Denji barf but to motivate Denji in Aging World to get hungry.

That is because Chainsaw Man’s stomach is in the real world and if Denji eats something in the Aging World, it fills up Chainsaw Man.

Asa produces an axe from the tooth of the Snow Devil the old-fashioned way and uses it to chop one of the trees, which makes it cry since it was human.

What this does is bring out the bloodied guts of the tree person for Denji to eat.

With the guts and blood needed to reawaken Chainsaw Man, Denji pulls his cord, which Pochita does at the same time, restoring Black Chainsaw Man to life.

The Aging Devil informs the politicians that Chainsaw Man is coming here.

However, it does not tell them that Denji has no intention to eat the Aging Devil at all but to slay it before 10,000 children die for the pleasure of the elderly.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 186 will be released in December 10, 2024

This means Chainsaw Man will be on a TWO-WEEK BREAK.
