Netflix Cancels Scott Pilgrim Anime After One Season

A year has passed since an unexpected spinoff came and went.

However, on November 21, 2024, it was announced that Netflix would not renew Scott Pilgrim Takes Off for another season

The original creator of the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, Bryan Lee O’Malley, did point out that the show was only intended for one reason and required a lot of effort to even make this season a reality.

Anyway, we were recently informed that the show will NOT return. As you know, we only intended one season, and called in a lot of favors to make it happen, so making more would have been nearly impossible. Still, I know some of you have been holding out hope. 😩🫶🏼

In a Rolling Stone interview on November 25, 2023, O’Malley previously stated that it would take “about 50 different miracles simultaneously for another season to happen.”

Released on November 17, 2023, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is an 8-episode anime based on the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels written and drawn by O’Malley and produced by Science SARU (Dandadan, Devilman Crybaby) for Netflix..

The show saw the entire main cast from the 2010 film adaptation, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World reprising their roles for the English voice cast, including Michael Cera as the titular protagonist and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers.

The show is a spinoff that removes Scott Pilgrim from the equation in Episode 1 as the narrative shifts its focus to Ramona Flowers investigation the cause behind Scott Pilgrim’s disappearance.
