The Dragon Ball Multiverse Explained
Dragon Ball: Daima has once again retconned the continuity of the Dragon Ball multiverse, this time by revealing the actual creator of the Twelve Universes

In Episode 10: “Ocean”, we learn from Neva of the true beginning of the Dragon Ball Universe and it has nothing to do with Dragon Ball Super.
But how exactly does this tie to the continuity that was previously established up to the ongoing story of the Dragon Ball Super manga?
Daima was the First Realm
The Daima Realm is the origin of the Dragon Ball Multiverse.
All universes and species can trace their descent to this
In the beginning, there was nothing in what we would call the Dragon Ball Multiverse, except it was the empty opposite half of the Demon Realm.
Demon Realm was the only universe there was, inhabited by a wide variety of beings called Majin.
This universe was divided into three worlds, with the Supreme Demon King ruling over all from the First Demon World and the Third World being the harshest and poorest, reflecting the class system.
The Supreme Demon King at the time ordered a Super Majin named Rymus to create universes outside the Demon Realm in order to expand their territory.
This king encouraged mass migration into the new universes, which is primarily seen with the Namekians and Glinds, the latter being appointed by Rymus as overseers of the Universes known as the Supreme Kai.
However, at a much later point, a different Supreme Demon King named Abura placed restrictions on Sir Warp, the mechanical fish portals that act as portals to and from the Demon Realm, preventing many Majin from leaving.
While never outright mentioned, at some point, Zeno would act as the reigning ruler over the cosmos while Rymus has yet to make any active appearance in the story.
Structure of the Multiverse
As of the current story, there are twelve Universes, with another six having existed before being Erased by Zeno.
Universes come in pairs, a front and a back, with Universe 1’s twin being Universe 12 and so on, with Universe 6 and 7 as twins, forming a ring of spheres.
Each universe is structured as a ball, which fits the theme for Dragon Ball.
In Akira Toriyama’s original concept for the cosmos prior to Super’s Multiverse, the whole Cosmos is a ball that has two halves, the lower half being the Living World or the Universe proper and the Upper Half being the Other World, the afterlife where the dead and deities inhabit. Hell exists in-between both halves.
Before entering the Other World, the dead are judged by King Yenma in the Check-In Station to either go to Heaven for being good or Hell for being evil, with some with high power levels, such as Goku, being revived into their bodies after being killed.
This concept exists in all universes, meaning that every Universe has a Check-in Station where there is a different Heaven and Hell, and various Core People or Kai worlds per Universe.
Zeno’s Role
If we connect the cosmology of Daima and Super, we might encounter a problem with the Omni King Zeno.
However, it is resoled if you notice that Zeno has only destroyed universes and not once has he created them.
His only known technique is Erase, the most powerful ability ever seen so far, and is something akin to the Gods of Destruction’s Hakai, except Zeno can reverse Erase and restore universes.
Some have theorized that Zeno is the King of Destruction who appoints Gods of Destruction and their Angels (Zeno himself has an Angel via their leader and father, the Grand Minister) while Rymus is the King of Creation because he appoints Supreme Kai.
And if we go further, Rymus and Zeno are two sides of the same balance, the yin and yang, as creation and destruction are both equally and mutually necessary.
The Life Links are an agreement between both sides, Creation and Destruction, but they could very well be enforced mechanisms once Rymus finished creating the Universe.
Zeno may or may not be a Majin himself or a creation of Rymus. We have yet to be sure.
However, this being, the Omni King, has more in common with the Gods of Destruction than with the Kais of Creation.
