In the previous Kagurabachi chapter, we see Chihiro decide to take on the Hishaku swordsman Kuguri without his Enchanted Blade Enten to improve his strength in the upcoming match against Samura and the stronger Hishaku, ending up with Chihiro finally using Samura’s Iai White Purity Style

Kagurabachi Chapter 65 is titled “Mimicry”

This chapter has 19 pages.

Editor’s note: “Kuguri who lost to his slashing desires..”

“Volumes 1-5 selling like crazy, thank you for the support! Volume 6 releasing March 4th!”

The chapter continues where we left off as Kuguri struggles against both Chihiro and his desire to cut to converse.

He tries to focus on the mission to retrieve Iori, Samura’s daughter.

Although Chihiro thinks it is still too slow, Kuguri recognizes the speed of Chihiro’s draw to resemble Samura, rather than Uruha and it makes him ask why Chihiro did not stick with Iai from the start, as that was his mentor’s style.

As they fight, Kuguri explains the Iai White Purity style, a simple technique but requires specific movements.

The person who invented his style is Shirakai Itsuo and only two people earned the “license” to use it, two famous swordsmen of the Seitei War:

Samura Seeichi and Uruha Youji.

With Uruha dead, Samura is the sole inheritor of the style, making it borderline extinct.

So Kuguri is surprised to see how Chihiro managed to reach this mastery without a teacher.

Of course, we see through that flashback in Chapter 51: “Samura” that Chihiro learned it through watching Samura.

Shiba remarked on Chihiro possessing Kunishige’s eyes.

The narrator would then explain the process of swordsmithing requires excellent eyes, primarily to assess changes in a material’s composition and temperature.

Kunishige stands at the very top as a swordsmith for his eyes.

He is the only one who can stabilize the highly poisonous and unstable Datenseki by noting the slight subtleties of the stone.

By itself, the stone would increase a person’s Sorcery power to the point that their bodies could no longer contain it but Kunishige managed to stabilize it so that Enchanted Blades do not overload their wielders with spirit energy.

If Kunishige is the ultimate swordsmith because of his eyes, those same eyes will make Chihiro the ultimate swordsman.

His eyes saw Samura’s Iai White Purity Style just once and he was able to practice from memory since.

As Kuguri expresses disbelief as Chihiro’s mimicry, Rou calls for Chihiro as he forms a teleportation circle, allowing the two to flee the scene, much to Kuguri’s frustration.

We see the Hishaku girl, whose name is Toto, lie down since the car she was on crashed in Chapter 63: “Car Chase”. Yes, Kuguri almost killed his partner.

Kuguri asks if Toto is alive and she says she is dead, even though she is walking. Funny.

Toto remarks that they are in an even worse position as Iori vanished and they have no clue where they went.

We cut to where Sumi brings Iori, the “Kyoto Massacre Hotel” that promises the finest rest without causing hospitalization.

Which means they do cause you trouble.

We are greeted by the hotel manager, Sengoku Yojirou, a man with an eyepatch covering his left eye and a long fu mustache.

Sengoku tells the guests that the barriers around the building provide privacy.

Sengoku recognizes Sumi.

Although assured of their safety by Sumi, Iori is intimidated by the guests in the hotel.

Rou and Chihiro come to the hotel and see Iori sitting down with Sumi in the Pine Room.

Iori thanks the Masumi for saving her and Rou gives her their names.

Iori then notices Chihiro, whom she recognizes on television as a murderer in the Kabuki Theater but Rou tells her that is a mistake and even says that Chihiro puts others before himself.

However, with a scary face, Chihiro refuses the correction from Rou, much to the latter chagrin and simply states that he is indeed a simple murderer.

He acts quite like Samura here, not wanting to connect with Iori to preserve her innocence.

Moku massages his shoulders to make him relax.

However, Chihiro says that he intends to keep Iorio safe from harm.

In a flashback, Rou notes that Iori is slowly regaining memories about Samura.

Chihiro sees that Iori has such a strong attachment to Samura as a child that the seal can be broken.

Rou says that the Hishaku are after Iori precisely because the seal is being broken, so he tells Chihiro not to bring up Samura in front of her.

Rou plans to add an even stronger seal so she will forget about Samura-san’s existence and he notices Chihiro’s hesitance, wondering if this is the right thing to do for Iori.

Rou tells Chihiro that when the Masumi were assigned this mission, Samura told them that she is a child with “no relation to the filthy, dirty world of war” and is thus better off forgetting about her murderer of a father.

Back to the present, Rou tells Iori that she will be back to her regular life in 24 hours but Iori tells that they are not being completely honest with her so she wants to know exactly why the bad guys are after her.

Recalling Kuguri’s question about Samura’s daughter, Iori asks about Samura, about what he is.

Chihiro sees that the Masumi are too obvious.

Rou bemoans the fact that it is the Masumi themselves who are triggering her repressed memories and now Iori’s body is fighting back against the seal.

Iori remembers her dream of holding Samura’s hand but Rou refuses to answer her, only that her memories were sealed for her safety, otherwise many bad people (Hishaku, Kamunabi) would go after her and thus prevent Iori from living a normal, peaceful life.

Rou tells her that these memories may not even be happy and assures her, or rather insists on her welfare, about losing that hazy feeling

Seeing Iori’s dilemma, Chihiro wonders if he had not lived with his father from the beginning, he might have gone to school, not have his scars or risk his life, yet at the same time, he is somehow glad to spend these days with his dad, which is visualized brilliantly by having the two of them within their fishbowl.

Chihiro asks Rou if Iori regaining her memories is safe as long as she is in this hotel, which has barriers to project them and the captain says yes.

Chihiro suggests that they tell her everything since she will have her memories sealed the next day anyway.

He wants Iori to decide for herself rather than let the adults decide for her.

Chihiro offers to tell Iori everything about Samura and Iori is free to decide whether she can keep or forget these memories.

Rou thinks through this option, noting that if Iori refuses to erase her memories, the Hishaku and Kamunabi will come after her.

However, Chihiro uses this as an opportunity to hone his swordsmanship and bring out even more of Enten’s (“true realm”) potential.

Kagurabachi Chapter 66 will be released on February 3, 2025.
