Samura’s Past is HEARTBREAKING. Kagurabachi Chapter 66 Spoilers!
Kagurabachi finally reveals part of the truth behind the horrific Seitei War but this is only just the beginning.

Kagurabachi Chapter 66 is titled, “The Truth”
This chapter has 19 pages.

The chapter begins with Iori thinking about the dream of holding Samura’s hand and noting that while her life was nice and peaceful, she felt a vague sense of loneliness.
After Rou offers Iori a snack, a bun that she eats with much gusto, he explains that Iori did live with Samura and the Masumi’s fiddling with her memories, the seal, allowed her to live a new life, with a registration and birthplace that have been completely fabricated.
Iori’s surname is Koura. Koura Iori.
But her true name is Samura Iori.
Iori asks about what her safety has to do with losing her memories.
Rou writes down Samura’s name on a paper, which allows Iori to remember seeing it before.
Chihiro asks Iori how much she knows about the Seitei War from school.
Here, we finally get a flashback of the beginnings of the mysterious Seitei War.
22 years ago, a small country suddenly appeared on the nearby coast of the southeast.
Suddenly? So an island just popped into existence?
Or did sorcery have anything to do with it.
So this country is the source of the Datenseki material that created the Enchanted Blades.
The people of this small country were born with a configuration to handle the pressure of the Datenseki, such that unlike the fodder used by Sojo and the Hishaku, they would not pop.
This must be the origin of Char Kyonagi and her family.
A year and five months later, Kunishige Rokuhira crafted the Enchanted Blades, which he gave to the Sword Saint and five master swordsmen (Subaru, Samura, Uruha and two others) and it led to a “great cleansing” of the enemy.
Of the six swordsmen, Samura was the fastest in terms of swordsmanship.
This is the school version of events and as we will see, hidden in this easy language is a terrifying secret that caused Samura to seek the end of the Enchanted Blades.
Perhaps the Enchanted Blade users killed the Kyonagi clan to prevent the creation of Datenseki that would threaten Japan, a genocide, possibly preventative instead of a provocation.
Genocide might be why Samura is dedicated to oppose the narrative and take the Enchanted Blades away.
Rou explains that the best way to control and use the speedy Samura, who takes no sides, is to take Iori, his daughter, hostage
However, there would be no leverage if Iori had no link to Samura, so he requested Rou to make Iori forget about him.
As Iori struggles to even remember Samura’s face, a new memory unlocks.
Of a young Iori drawing her father and she does capture his resemblance and annoyed expression.
Iori tries to show the drawing but Samura reminds her that he cannot say.
In the present, Iori remarks that Rou just called Samura “-san”, which implied closeness and so she asks where he is and what he is doing.
Rou reveals that Samura also lost memories of Iori on the basis that if anything happened to Iori, the Masumi would protect her.
Iori wondered if Samura was so strong, why could they not live together in peace under his protection
The lock keeps cracking.
Slowly, Iori focuses on the image of Samura’s face and recalls the memory of the time he held her hand.
However, we get this page.
On the wall outside their home were angry words, calling Samura “murderer, horrible person scum, and sinner,” and asking him to “disappear, die, get out, and unalive himself.”
Crows also appear, pecking near the rocks.
Chihiro says that Iori’s safety was not the only reason.
Rou explains that although everyone viewed Samura as nothing but a hero, some others have multifaceted views and they will cling to a stronger sentiment their entire lives, even if that person is protecting them.
This brings back to Iori asking if Chihiro was a murderer, now connecting the dots.
When Chihiro saved people in the theater in Chapter 53: “Darkness”, all they could remember was the first thing Chihiro did upon entering their midsts: he brought in dead Datensenki sorcerers before the stage and disrupted the performance and the peace of ordinary people.
Iori experiences headaches as more memories surface.
Later, she is put to bed due to overdoing the exercise of recovering her memories.
Rou talks about Iori’s condition and her mother but Chihiro tells him not to bring up her mother, saying that it is better to leave a place open where she can call home.
This implies that the woman with Iori is just her adopted mother.
Chihiro remarks that Iori’s path is a thorny one and it is natural and better to live by the truth.
However, even if it is painted or artificially imposed over the dark truth, an ordinary life is just as precious as the truth.
On the Kyoto Massacre Hotel 35th Floor, Moku takes the nightwatch.
While Moku hopes to seal her memories away forever, Sumi intends to write everything about Iori on the rooftop.
Moku asks why do it here, to which his sister says that sorcery is forbidden within the Hotel but outside of it is fine, meaning this writing will have sorcery.
The reason for the hotel’s strict rule is due to it being home to many bigwigs in the underworld, especially those being hunted down by other gangs or the authorities, so it is best not to provoke them to fight one another.
Moku remarks that this means that if anyone makes a scene, they become enemies of the entire hotel, from the staff maintaining order to the guests who want their security.
Sumi reveals that each employee has fully mastered the art of “Rei-gen Ittouryuu” (Reigen-One-Sword-Style), taught by the General Manager Sengoku Youjiro, which means they can easily take down any foe.
This conversation sets up what happens later.
On the lobby, Toto sits on a couch and casts a spell, summoning Hiruhiko from the flames.
Hiruhiko is here to help retrieve Iori since Enchanted Blades cannot be used here.
Hiruhiko brings out a hairpin instead.
Kuguri is off searching for Iori in other locations but Toto thought of coming here, which was smart of her.
As the butler reminds the Hishaku not to use sorcery, we see an amazing page of Hiruhiko killing the man with just the hairpin and cutting his head off.
Toto reminds Hiruhiko not to use the Enchanted Blade Kumeyuri (formerly of Uruha) or Samura will come and kill him, which Hiruhiko is aware of already.
Hiruhiko ties his hair back with the bloody hairpin.
Seeing the butler’s death, Youjirou unsheathes his sword, which Hiruhiko concierge a good steeping stone.
Now we have another parallel between Chihiro and Hiruhiko as the two are now finding ways to master swordsmanship without an Enchanted Blade or Sorcery.
Editor’s note: “Without an Enchanted Blade, without sorcery.. A man and his swordsmanship..”
Hokazono Takeru’s Author Comment: “Kotake Seigikan’s debate was very interesting. Also, the Ado feature on the new Imagine Dragons song was very fitting”
The song he’s talking about is “Take Me To The Beach”
Kotake Seigikan seems to be a talk show comedian.
