In the previous Blue Lock chapter, Seishiro Nagi gets locked off from the World Cup.

Blue Lock Chapter 299 is titled, “Blue Tears”

This chapter has 20 pages.

Editor’s note: “With Spain’s victory, the last place is confirmed! The future of Nagi and Reo is separated…”

The chapter begins with the score card of 2 – 3 in favor of FC Barcha.

Nanase barely made it as he reached the top 23 and is directly above Nagi.

Raichi, Zantetsu and Kiyora all cheer on but Isagi does not seem pleased, asking Ego why Nagi did not make it.

Ego explains that Nagi could not contribute to the match and while he had shining moments, there was a clear difference between his good and bad performance, resulting in a relative salary.

Isagi insists on Nagi’s talent while Reo protests about the results, saying that Ego should redo it and that this is not right.

Reo points out that while Nagi is not always at his best, there are miracle plays only Nagi can do.

Ego gets mad, calling Reo a “peace-loving idiot” and that this is not a daycare.

As metaphorical chains break out from his seated position, Ego explains that Blue Lock is a laboratory to make the world’s best and even though Nagi is classified as a genius, his talent has withered.

Talent is not about believing in one’s abilities but proving them, hence why talent changes due to the environment and someone’s mental fortitude.

Friends and rivals, goals and feelings, can improve and weaken one’s talent.

Ego asks what makes talent wither and it is not loss of hope or despair or fear but satisfaction.

Nagi was satisfied with his current state.

The comfort zone.

With desires freed, a beast with full stomach forgets how to hunt and thus lose his original fire.

Even if Nagi lost, his ego should have kept burning.

This explains players such as Igaguri and Ness, whose respective losses made them demotivated rather than motivated to keep moving forward.

In the end, all Nagi reached for was the strength to defeat Isagi but that would never be enough.

Only crazy dreamers that never stop belong in Blue Lock, so Ego asks Nagi to go home.

Reo bursts into tears as he takes in all of Ego’s words.

The chapter ends with Nagi looking towards Reo.

Editor’s note: “Our unfulfilled dream. In the midst, Nagi speaks to Reo…“

Blue Lock is about to reach 300 chapters next week.

Blue Lock Chapter 300 is titled, “Innocent” and will be released on April 22, 2025.
