One Piece: Roronoa Zoro’s Sword Explained!
One Piece is one of the most famous manga with over 1000+ chapters and a plethora of characters introduced to us. Among all of them, one of the most loved characters is Roronoa Zoro of the monster trio.
Roronoa Zoro is the second member to join Straw Hat Pirates. His goal is to become the strongest swordsman in the world with his signature three-sword style swordsmanship.
During his quest, he has lost many swords in battles and in turn, wielded many. In this article, we will tell you about all the swords he has wielded.
For those who till the end there is a Zoro’s rarest sword he has ever wielded, one that can’t be ever graded!
Major Swords wielded by Zoro:
1. Dual Katanas
Zoro’s first three swords that we get to see in the series are dual katana and Wado Ichimonji.
Dual katanas were forged and given to him by Shimotsuki Kozaburo.
They broke in a battle with Dracule Mihawk (the current strongest swordsman) where he gets completely decimated.
2. Wado Ichimonji
Wado Ichimonji was also forged by Shimotsuki Kozaburo and was in supposed to be inherited by his granddaughter Kuina rival of Zoro.
After Kuina’s untimely death, Zoro took possession of the Wado Ichimmonji from Kuina’s father Koushirou.
Zoro promised to be the greatest swordsman in the world and carry Wado Ichimonji to the end of his journey. Wado Ichimonji is one of the 21 O Wazamono-grade (great grade) swords.
3. Sandai Kitetsu
Zoro came in contact with Sandai Kitestu in an arms merchant shop in Logue Town.
Sandai Kitetsu is a Wazamono-grade and third out of the three Kitetsu swords. It was forged by Kozuki Sukiyaki and is the weakest among the Kitetsu trio.
Due to being a cursed sword and with immense bloodlust and sharpness, it is particularly hard to master. Zoro even called it a problem child due to this!
Every swordsman who wielded this sword died eventually, so Zoro tries to test his luck with this sword.
He tested his luck against the curse by throwing it up in the air and placing his arm in the trajectory. In the end, Zoro won with his luck as the sword smoothly landed without even touching his arm.
He got this sword for free after impressing the arms merchant Ippontmatsu and still carries this sword with him.
4. Yubashiri
Yubashiri is one of the 50 Ryo Wazamono-grade swords. which is a high rank but under O Wazamono-grade swords.
The sword is a family heirloom merchant Ipponmatsu’s family.
He handed the sword to Zoro after proving his luck against Sandai Kitetsu.
Zoro wielded this sword and was disintegrated by Marine Captian Shu holder of Rust-rust fruit during the fight.
Zoro paid tribute to the sword after the event of Thriller Bark which now serves as its resting place.
5. Shusui
Shusui is also one of the 21 O Wazamono-grade swords and was wielded by the legendary Wano swordsman Shimostsuki Ryuma.
Shusui is a black blade probably due to the amount of Haki that has been imbued in it.
After Ryuma’s death, the swords were placed alongside him in his grave.
To create his army of death Geko Moriya then stole Ryuma’s body and his sword.
During the Thriller Bark arc, Zoro received this blade from the zombie Ryuma after incinerating him with Fames from a Blue Dragon.
6. Enma
Enma is another sword from 21 O Wazamono-grade swords and was wielded by Kozuki Oden and then passed down to his daughter Kozuki Hyori.
This was also forged by Shimotsuki Kozaburo. Kozaburo deemed Enam as his masterpiece.
As Shusui was stolen from Ryuma’s grave, Gyukimaru fought Zoro to get Shusui back and was able to steal it. Later Zoro took in exchange Enma from Hyori in exchange for Shusui.
Enma is an extremely powerful but uncontrollable sword. It requires its user to give extreme amounts of Armament haki but in exchange, it delivers insane damage.
It enabled Zoro to do damage to Kaido, the strongest creature in One Piece. There are also other not-so-major swords Zoro has wielded.
Other Swords Zoro Wielded
1. Jonny and Yosaku’s Swords
After Mihawk destroyed Zoro’s dual Katanas He need two other swords to fight alongside Wado Ichimonji.
Then he borrowed Jonny and Yosaku’s swords in order to fight Hatchan in Arlong Park.
2. Random Marine’s Cutlass
During the events of Enies Lobby, Zoro was ambushed by the marine captain Shu. As mentioned above during the fight Captain Shu destroyed Zoro’s Yubashiri.
So he picked up a nearby marine’s Cutlass to use his Three-sword style but his attempt was futile Shu destroyed his temporary Cutlass as well.
3. Seppuku Blade
Immediately after entering Wano, he was framed for murder. He was asked to commit seppuku and was given a shirt blade without a tanto.
Zoro then used the short blade to slaughter everyone in the path including the actual culprit: the magistrate.
4. Kamazo’s Scythe
As mentioned before, Gyukimaru took Zoro’s Shusui sword, leaving him with just two swords.
Zoro while trying to Shusui back got intercepted by Kamazo the Manslayer. During the fight, Zoro then Snatched one of the scythes Kamazo had used the infamous Za best move Onigiri beating Kamazo.
Thank you for reading till the end and as promised let’s talk about the rarest sword Zoro has wielded. The sword is called Nose Storm.
He wielded the Nose Storm sword back in the Enies Lobby as Zoro finds himself in a predicament where he is handcuffed to Sogeking.
Key to hand scuff is with CP9 members who are confronting, so he uses his google navigation idea and takes up Sogeking and wields him as his other blade in the fight.
As Sogekings power is unknown this sword cannot be ranked and that’s why we love Zoro.
Conclusion:
Roronoa Zoro has wielded 6 major swords and 4 minor swords in the series so far!
