Yet Another Weird Chainsaw Man Cliffhanger? Chainsaw Man Chapter 180 Review
Alright, did anyone expect the chapter to end with…that?
In the previous Chainsaw Man Chapter, the Aging Devil is frustrated by Pochita’s irresponsiveness and even blocks a finger from the Statue of Liberty fired by Yoru.
Now the battle begins.
Chapter 180 is titled, “Aging’s World”
And with some classic irony, Aging says “Bang” and sends Yoru and Asa to another dimension.
What is up with Four Horsemen and Primal Devils using a Gun Devil-related term.
At first, Yoru falls into a pitch darkness leading her to the city environment she was already on.
Just as Asa takes back control from the War Devil, she wakes up to find herself entering a forest.
They seem to find Denji here, which means that Pochita entered the dimension with them through that one “Bang”.
Yoru usurps control and tries to kill Denji but strangely, the blast does nothing.
Asa takes back control as she spots a man who explains that this whole world is the Aging Devil’s dimension where aging and time stop.
The man was a Devil Hunter and came here due to a contract with the Aging Devil, which involved asking for his aging to stop.
This could mean the man looked much older when he was in the real world.
And it seems the man has been around for a really long time, 82 years.
82 years? That sounds exactly like the age of the Whip Hybrid.
Something is off here.
The man is the “youngest” to be here since Asa, meaning that the Aging Devil either has not made deals with anyone in 82 years or there were different deals that did not involve the cessation of aging, such as the deal to remove aging via being consumed by Chainsaw Man in exchange for the lives of thousands of children.
Additionally, we learned in Part 1 that Quanxi is the “First Devil Hunter” and this old man has been around for more than 100 years, if we count his 82 years in the Aging dimension, which could mean that Quanxi is much older than Kishibe when they first met while Kishibe was still quite young.
The man also warns Asa of other residents, who have lost their minds..
And speaking of losing minds, the chapter ends on the man embracing a tree and acting infantile, crying aloud.
A common theory is that the most recent escapee was Yoshida, which has something to do with the Volume 17 back illustration, showing Yoshida bumping his head onto a tree, which is related to the cliffhanger here.
