KIKORU SHINOMIYA is the FIRST to Use TWO NUMBERS WEAPONS! Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 123 Review!
Kikoru Shinomiya might be the first Defense Force member to use Two Numbers Weapons at the same time and they are two of the most powerful in all of Kaiju No. 8.
In the previous Kaiju No. 8 chapter, Kafka drives the Meireki Daikaiju away but prepares to emerge in its true form.
Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 123 has 25 pages
The chapter begins with Kafka warning everyone about the emergence of the Daikaiju’s true form.
Everyone on the field assumed they were still fighting Kaiju No. 9 but Kafka reveals what the Daikaiju of the Meireki Era truly is: the amalgamation of every Kaiju that lie beneath Japan’s surface for over 400 years.
The emerging Daikaiju appears as a humanoid body with eyes all over, dwarfing even the building that Kafka was standing on.
As it floats, the Daikaiju’s many mouths open up and let out a sound, activating Kaiju No. 9’s ability to raise the corpses of dead Kaiju.
Soshiro Hoshina was surprised by this revelation, recalling the name from legend and Gen Narumi understands that this explains the multiple signatures actually came from one source.
However, now the Defense Force reports multiple signatures, except it is all over Japan.
The Daikaiju of the Meireki Era had resurrected every single intact Kaiju corpse in Japan, a far worse Cataclysm than the creation of new Kaiju.
All numbered Kaiju from No. 11 to 15 have also been revived, resetting the hard-fought battles fought since Chapter 68 at the Compatible User Arc.
Seeing this, Kafka hurries to stop this as everyone has been exhausted in these long battles and that the Kaiju are all converging towards where the Daikaiju is.
However, the Daikaiju’s runes appear, which would have split any ordinary person apart with tremendous force.
Seeing that there is no other means to stop the Daikaiju, Gen recommends Retina Numbers Weapon 1’s foresight, which would open a path for Kafka to attack the Daikaiju but Soshira warns the captain about his exhausted state, as his bleeding eyes show.
However, he will not do it.
The chapter ends with Gen asking someone if they have studied the Daikaiju’s movement figures.
As it turns out, Gen was talking to none other than his “foolish disciple”, Kikoru Shinomiya, who now bears Numbers Weapon 1.
Shinomiya and Kafka will now work together to stop the Cataclysm and save Japan, this time with Shinomiya surpassing her father Isao, the bearer of Numbers Weapon 2.
Not only does she have the combat suit, Numbers Weapon 4, the valkyrie dress of her mother Hikari, but she now has her master, First Division Captain, Gen Narumi’s, Retina Numbers Weapon 1.
With her prodigy skills and insane combat power, can she handle bearing the strain of TWO Numbers Weapons at once?
As the conflict escalates to even greater heights, will we expect some deaths soon?
Gen is far too exhausted to keep fighting and so is Soshiro, both now experiencing the burden of using Numbers Weapons for so long.
This is one of the toughest battles faced by the Defense Force, so there should be some major casualties.
However, maybe Kaiju No. 8 will break the dark shonen (Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man) curse of constant death and that could be a good thing for the audience’s sanity.
On top of that, Kikoru, who still has enough stamina, is going to withstand two Numbers Weapons, one that affects eyesight and the other her whole body.
Fans might expect her to survive but there should be some consequences from the strain alone.
Will she save the day?
Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 124 will be released on March 27, 2025.
