In the previous Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest chapter, Natsu’s family tree got more complicated as Wed turns out to be Ignia’s son.

Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest chapter 178 is titled, “The Key to a New Power”

This chapter has 20 pages.

The cover page shows Kyria in a wedding dress and she does not look too happy, now no longer dominating her opponents like she usually would by “cutting their strength” with her Blade Dragon Slayer Magic.

Perhaps it is from the photographer grabbing her attention.

Perhaps this is also her fantasy, to marry Laxus that is.

The chapter begins with Natsu getting mad at Ignia for ignoring him but Misfortune has an idea.

While she tries to persuade Ignia, Natsu will find Bestia in Dramil as her “special flames” can be consumed for a power boost.

We now learn of what Bestia’s flames actually do: the power to imprison anything until they burn away completely.

It seems Misfortune is banking on Ignia’s good will for him to hear her out while also being aware it will not be so easy to sway the Fire Dragon God.

Indeed, after we learn of this fearsome power, we cut to the dimension Bestia sent Faris to, a reverse world with dead tress and Faris senses Teleportation Magic, Space Magic and a hint of Dark Magic in the spell that brought her here.

As the Dramil battles rage on, we return to Ermina, where Mercphobia pieces together Ignia’s plan, including how Dogramag made the Dragon Lacrimas that were turning people into dragons.

Before Lucy goes, Mercphobia gives her a seahorse-shaped key, the Key of the Water Dragon God.

Lucy is confused until Mercphobia reveals that it is a key to summon him, much to her reasonable shock.

Mercphobia explains that wizards who use keys and get power from gates are collectively called Summoners.

Meanwhile, Gray faces a tough battle against the Gold Dragon God Viernes, who easily gets out of his ice.

Before Gray could launch another attack, the dragon vanishes but in its place is a man who resembles an Egyptian pharaoh and has wings on his hips.

Now Gray asks the question we all wanted to know: if Viernes can talk.

Instead, Viernes responds by using Alchemy to make a tree gold to throw at Gray but Gray declares that he is an expert at making things out of nothing.

Lucy’s Immense Potential Revealed

This chapter seems to be a springboard for a new evolution in Lucy’s power, the first since the Star Dress acquired after Aquarius’ emotional sacrifice during the Tartaros Arc and interestingly, this one happens because Aquarius is brought back.

While Lucy started combining Star Dresses during the Wood Dragon God Arc in the sequel, the Water Dragon God is the first time we see Lucy summon something else besides a Celestial Spirit.

Even if Mercphobia is weakened after the Whiteout from Elentear Faris, he would remain a formidable part of Lucy’s arsenal alongside her twelve Celestial Spirits since only Dragon Slayer Magic can beat Dragons.

Gray would be the only person left without a means to slay a Dragon but he might have a way to at least weaken one.
