After the release of One Piece chapter 1122, fans were astonished to witness the immense power of Joy Boy’s Haki which was sealed within the Iron Giant: Ement.

This Power far surpassed anything we had seen before, including Shanks and even the Haki-man Garp, to the point where it overwhelmed the 900-year-old Imu many miles away on the red line.

However, In this article, we will explore how Joy Boy’s Haki remained sealed inside the Emment for such an extended period, transcending time, and how it had the power to send the Goroseis back to Marijoa.

What is Haki

In the world of One Piece, Haki is manifested as a spiritual power that allows a user to harness their spiritual energy to develop a variety of powers and abilities.

Primarily, it is used in combat, enabling feats such as strengthening the body and seeing a few seconds into the future. However, Haki is more than just a set of abilities; it is fundamentally the manifestation of “willpower.”

One Piece's Most Mysterious Power Explained: What Is Haki?

The epitome of all this is Conquerors Haki or Color of the Supreme King. As the name suggests when exerted it can submit anyone and anything under the user’s will.

This includes Devil Fruit Powers, in chapter 511 we learn that the only way to bypass a Devil Fruit’s ability or revert the effect is to overwhelm the user with Haki.

Hence why Haki is one of the only ways to fight Logias and deflect or revert ridiculous abilities, an example is when Trafalgar Law was turned into a woman by Doc Q of Black Beard Pirates in chapter 1063, Law had to use his Haki to break the devil powers hold on him.

irekarada on X: "#ONEPIECE1063 I didn't expect Law to actually turn into a girl for a bit. It's thanks to a devil fruit user who made a contagious gender-swapping plague! https://t.co/qfoaFrHGBg" /

What is special about Joy Boy’s Haki?

In Chapter 1122, the Straw Hats found themselves cornered with seemingly no escape from the Gorosei. At a critical moment, the Iron Giant unleashed a game-changing revelation by releasing the Haki of Joy Boy, which had been stored within it.

To everyone’s surprise, this act not only broke the Yokai Transformation of the Five Elders but also sent 3 out of 5 Gorosei’s back to Marijoa. Where it seems Luffy’s Combo attack had sent Marcus Mars back much earlier.

This result also proved that the summoning circle used to send them to Egghead Island in the first place was indeed a Devil Fruit ability likely belonging to Imu Sama; which is evident from Imu’s exhaustive and broken reaction, with a HUFF HUFF!

Like any other devil fruit power, when Haki greater than the Devil fruit user is exerted, the power of their fruit breaks for that given moment.

Effectively, Joy Boy’s Conquerors Haki from 800 years ago had overpowered Imu and all 5 Gorosei, breaking their hold over their Devil Fruit ability (the summoning and Yokai Transformation).

The reason why Saturn D. Garcia wasn’t sent back like the others because he came to EggHead by ship.

However, This feat alone proves that Joy Boy must have been the strongest Hakiman to exist, and the only way he was beaten was through deception which plays a part in Imu Sama’s character.

So now that you understand what Joy Boy’s Haki had achieved, and how powerful it actually is, let’s break down how it transcended time to be used 800 years in the future.

How did Joy Boy seal his Haki inside the Emet?

Chapter 1122 reveals the past of Emet and Joy Boy. It showcases that, in the void century when Joy Boy and Emet were together. Joy Boy entrusted this haki to be used only at the right time as he wanted to protect the Emet, no matter what.

Now we already know that Haki as the manifestation can be imbued and stored into other things. For instance, the sword Enma.

When a blade is imbued with Haki by its user, over time it becomes black, however, another property it gains is a sense of will and consciousness. At times this manifestation reveals itself in a form that suits its personality, like with Shanks’ Gryphon.

Another notable example is the Going Merry, the Straw Hats’ ship, which gained a unique and personal character due to the crew’s collective emotions and willpower. But this also proves when enough Haki is given, it becomes alive and can last a long time.

However, Joy Boy’s ability to seal his Haki inside the Emmet used ancient and complex methods that are deeply rooted in the One Piece world’s lore.

A similar example can be seen in Nami’s visit to Weatheria, a Skypia island, just before the time skip. There, Nami learned about weather manipulation from a character named Haredes.

In chapter 523, we see Heredes holding a knot, which stores energy that manipulates the environment around them to produce a gust of wind.

Joy Boy utilized the same technology as he comes from a technological civilization, said to be more advanced than Egghead Island.

With this method, Joy Boy imbued and stored his Haki into the knot, passing it on to Emeth.
