Who is Wed? Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 176 Review!

In the previous Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest chapter, the original Oracion Seis struggle against Faris’ demonic Oracion Sechs but Natsu intervenes in Macbeth’s fight with Zero.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 176 is titled, “Shattering Hope”.

This chapter has 19 pages.

The chapter cover features Richard “Hoteye” Buchanan, a former member of the Oracion Seis and the first to revert to good in the original series. acting as chief conductor of a train station.

The chapter continues where it left off when Natsu enters the scene.

The two Happy and Misfortune talk about Aldoron’s revival (along with the other Dragon Gods) as part of Ignia’s plan to restore the Age of Dragons, something Misfortune regrets.

Macbeth (formerly and better known as Midnight) asks Natsu not to intervene as this is personal.

Back in Dramil, Erza manages to graze Wed’s mask and it begins to shatter.

Returning to the main fight, Natsu intervenes because it is the “Fairy Tail” way to accept a fight that is offered to them.

Zero excitedly prepares his Dark Magic, wanting to finish the man who killed him once and for all.

Natsu recognizes Genesis Zero to open the Gate of Wraith Wail and unleash a horde of phantoms that would take the enemy into the World of Nil.

Natsu exclaims that he has beaten this spell before yet Zero claims it is much stronger.

Natsu unleashes his full power through “Dragon Slayer Secret Attack Shiranui-Gata: Blaze of Fire Phoenix Sword”, which results in Natsu charging at his opponent while explosions go off to counter the flow of Dark Magic.

Shiranui-Gata is a sumo wrestling stance, which some recent manga fans have seen in Jujutsu Kaisen through Maki Zenin’s fight with Naoya Zenin in Chapter 151: “Perfect Preparation, Part 4”.

Zero counters with Dark Rondo and Dark Capricio together and brings them together in a mighty explosion.

The cats Happy and Misfortune are surprised to see Zero use two magic spells at the same time, which is indeed a rare feat in Fairy Tail and a display of how, even when beaten early on, Zero was the Crocodile of Fairy Tail, a true master of magic.

Natsu emerges but turned all white, his body shattering as Zero laughs in his victory.

Except…

The world shatters.

Because Macbeth punches through Zero, revealing that Natsu was an illusion.

The real Natsu left as he said there was no need for Macbeth’s input as he has no time to waste, planning to get to Ignia and Faris to stop the war.

The chapter ends back on Dramil as Erza witnesses Wed’s mask crack, much to her shock.

Judging by her expression, it seems that she knows who this person is.

Overall, the chapter is one of the more well-structured ones and the current arc is an inconsistent return to form from the the first three arcs of this sequel.

Theories on Wed’s Identity

Remember that Erza knows who the person in front of her is and her reaction combines familiarity and disbelief.

This person also has no facial hair.

The most common theories are that this person is Simon, Kagura’s brother and Erza’s friend from the Tower of Heaven that Jellal killed in the original series, and Erza’s father from 400 years ago.

These, however, are the easiest to dismiss.

Remember in the Alvarez Empire Arc that Neinhart’s Historia of the Dead Magic does not lie, which was the clue to remind the audience that the God Serena in the 100 Years Quest story is simply an alchemical construct made by Viernes (as Duke Barbaroa).

Simon was conjured by Neinhart’s Historia during the Alvarez Empire Arc, which proves that he is dead.

Same goes for Azuma, Erza’s foe in Grimoire Heart, and Ikagura from Trinity Raven, who were both killed during their battles with Erza.

Erza’s father Rung would not have lived long enough and he was squished by Irene’s hand when she first turned into a dragon.

However, being crushed is a good justification to hide one’s face. Ask Obito Uchiha.

The tricky thing is how would Rung have survived 400 years without the Anksheram Curse or being a dragon.

Considering that Fire and Flame is a guild of Fire Magic users, perhaps Rung was found by Ignia and in an ironic fashion, whether he knew it or no, he made an enemy of dragons into a powerful ally of the revival of dragons.

This is more plausible than Simon because Historia of the Dead has fixed rules.

Some have also suggested Rob, the old prisoner who mentors Erza, but he looks too old and frail and the flashbacks with him also do not suggest he would have this build even at a younger age.

Possibly surviving his injuries in he Tower of Heaven after fighting off the Zeref cult, Rob would either meet Ignia or someone or something else to turn younger and stronger

Many have suggested a new character we have not met, which would be off since it is easier to assume Erza’s shocked and familiar reaction was intended for the audience.

Either way, we have two weeks to speculate on who Erza’s toughest opponent could be.

Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest Chapter 177 will be released on January 22, 2025.
