10 Best Male Tsundere Characters Ranked!
Tsundere characters are arguably the most loved character tropes in otaku culture. “Tsun” means the harsh outer shell of the fruit, while “dere” refers to the softer fruit inside the shell.
While they are usually female, there is no shortage of amazing male tsundere characters ready to throw all the sass in the world. In this article, we’re going to take a look at the 10 best male tsundere characters in our opinion!
10) Megumi Fushiguro (Jujutsu Kaisen):
The deuteragonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, Megumi shows himself as a cold and reserved individual. He doesn’t reveal his goals, rarely relies on someone, and never talks about his personal life, unless necessary.
However, this doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about the people around him. Megumi was ready to sacrifice himself for Itadori in the first episode itself.
The two had barely known each other for a few hours, but to Megumi, he couldn’t let an innocent person die.
Throughout the first few arcs of the series, Megumi would almost sacrifices his life multiple times, as he believes that it was the right thing to do.
While he still risks his life, he’s smarter about it.
Megumi also tells Itadori that they’re not heroes and shrugs off the idea as a whole. Still, his willingness to sacrifice and fight for a cause he believes in says otherwise.
Overall, he’s a softie who will never show it to someone else!
9) Gray Fullbuster (Fairy Tale):
Gray Fullbuster is kind of similar to Fushiguro, both of them hide their true emotions, major tsunderes. However, Gray takes it to another level! Throughout his character arc, he doesn’t explicitly mention anything about friendship and loyalty either.
Juvia, the girl who had a crush on him, had a hard time for a while too. To Gray, Juvia is super annoying. However, he liked her too, he’s just a shy tsundere. As the story progresses, Gray proved his love. He risked his life for Juvia, and was scared to death when she did the same for him!
8) Uryu Ishida (Bleach):
Falling into the same coconut-type archetype of tsunderes, Uryu Ishida is an ace student and is one of the last human Quincy! Coming off as a strictly professional person, it was surprising to find out about his true feelings for the characters, especially Orihime.
However, his best moment was when he entered a semi-composed rage as he saw Ichigo lose to Ulquiorra Schiffer!
7) Kei Tsukishima (Haikyuu!):
Always treating volleyball as a club activity, Kei Tsukishima was known for acting like he was slacking off, doing the bare minimum. Kei was fairly hostile to his teammates too, especially to Hinata and Kageyama.
However, most people on the court could never be as passionate about the sport as him. He has a fear of eventually becoming a bench warmer like his elder brother. To Kei, his brother was an amazing player and an inspiration. Watching him sit out broke his heart.
Since then, he has acted cool so that he doesn’t end up hurting his feelings in the process. However, in season 3, his feelings rushed out as he yelled after a successful block against Ushijima!
However, he still is a tsundere!
6) InuYasha (InuYasha):
InuYasha, a half-demon, is always fighting Kagome. All of their friends have commented on how the two are so hostile towards each other. However, Kagome reminds InuYasha of Kikyo, a maid whom he once had feelings for.
If something were to ever happen to Kagome, he will seriously lose it and kill every single demon in the world! However, he still can’t express his feelings clearly. A true tsundere.
5) Jotaro Kujo (JoJo):
Coming off as a super masculine person, Jotaoro has been a cold individual since the time he was seventeen! With his signature dialogue “Good grief”, Jotaro is sighing at literally everything.
He is usually very rude to others with no control over his tongue, which doesn’t make the best impression, especially due to his intimidating looks.
However, Jotaro deeply cares about his ex-wife Holy, and their daughter, Jolyene!
His kindness also extends to any stranger who needs help, although his tongue is still sharp.
4) Hirotaka Nifuji (Wotakoi: Love Is Hard For Otaku):
Hirotaka is a video game otaku who doesn’t try to stand out. He is a polite person, but never shows any emotion either.
However, his connection with the other three main characters shows how he can be expressive too.
While texting, he is always using “lol” and emojis, and is always down to play video games with them! As for his girlfriend, Narumi, Hirotaka is very serious.
He wonders if he’s too interested in games for her, or if he is even good enough for her in the first place.
No matter what happens, he loves Narumi deeply!
3) Miyuki Shirogane:
Shuchi’in Academy’s Student Council President, Miyuki Shirogane is considered to be prideful and confident by everybody in the school. He is the ideal student at the prestigious academy.
However, that isn’t exactly true. He is a major tsundere. Shirogane aims to make Kaguya, the Vice-President confess, who also plans to make Shirogane do the same!
Interestingly, Shirogane doesn’t mind showing his caring side on multiple occasions.
He is also known to be quite selfless and provides advice to other students.
Still, whenever Kaguya is involved, it is just so funny to watch Shirogane plan so meticulously and flail around when things go south for him!
2) Vegeta:
As the prince of the Saiyans, there’s no wonder that Vegeta, one of the most recognizable characters in anime history is a tsundere!
Vegeta popularized the shonen rival archetype. In the beginning, Vegeta was solely a warrior and only wanted to prove himself as a strong man.
However, on planet Earth, Vegeta met Bulma, a highly intelligent woman who stole his heart.
For a tsundere, Vegeta did well and even had a son with her.
Still, his pride makes him a major tsundere as he is rarely seen being affectionate to others, especially in public!
1) Kyo Sohma:
Kyo Sohma, was initially the polar opposite of Tohru Honda, making him super popular among the fans.
He is straightforward, short-tempered, and quite self-centered.
Tohru always felt a strong force drawing her to Kyo. This eventually made her fall in love with him.
However, this journey wasn’t easy. Kyo would never accept these feelings, especially because of the Sohma family curse and Akito.
However, he couldn’t bear it after a point of time and accepted these feelings.
The two eventually broke the Sohma curse and were together forever!
