Sure, this might be as reassuring as a bandage on a fracture but c’mon, who doesn’t like a dose of wholesomeness in our lives.
And since we’re anime fans and don’t have a life of our own or friends, we resort to watching stuff that satisfies that sense of nostalgia we otherwise didn’t get in our school or college days. So this article is a must read!
Without further ado, here’s 8 wholesome anime you NEED to watch after a hard day’s work at school, college or at work, depending on how old you are!
Sweetness and Lightning:
Kohei Inuzuka is a teacher, living the dream life with his loving wife and their daughter. Unfortunately, Kohei’s life takes a steep turn as his wife passes away, leaving him stuck with his highly demanding job and his little daughter, Tsumugi.
Due to his grueling schedule, he can only feed ready-made meals to Tsumugi. Fortunately, Kohei is not alone for too long, as one of his students, Kotori Iida teaches her teacher to cook.
While it might seem like the anime might take an uncomfortable romance angle, it is simply a wholesome story of a father who wants to keep his daughter happy, and a teen with a single mother, looking for a father figure.
Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku:
Hirotaka is an otaku, who minds his own business, does his part in society, and goes back to playing his games. His slow and peaceful life suddenly hits the accelerate pedal as his childhood friend Narumi, a close otaku, joins the company.
The story follows the two as they start dating, along with Koyanagi and Kakabura, another otaku couple at the office.
Wotakoi has become a must-watch classic due to the way it handles simple romance and dating while playing into the otaku tropes without making it embarrassing for adults.
Aria:
The story is set in the 24th century on Aqua, a terraformed version of Mars, which is now a planet covered in water and resembling Venice, Italy. The main city, Neo-Venezia, is a picturesque location filled with canals, gondolas, and stunning architecture, evoking a sense of nostalgia and tranquility.
The narrative follows Akari Mizunashi, a cheerful and optimistic girl who moves to Neo-Venezia to become an Undine, a professional gondolier who guides tourists through the city’s beautiful canals. She joins the Aria Company, a small and prestigious gondola company run by the kind and experienced Alicia Florence.
Aria is more than just an anime; it’s a soothing journey through a beautifully crafted world filled with heartwarming characters and uplifting themes. Whether you seek an escape from stress, an appreciation for the beauty of life, or simply a touching story of friendship and growth, Aria offers a fulfilling and memorable experience (It’s a show about cute girls doing cute things. What more wholesomeness do you want?)
K-on!:
Speaking of cute girls doing cute things, “K-On!” is a delightful and heartwarming anime that combines endearing characters, catchy music, and a charming slice-of-life narrative.
Yui Hirasawa is starting a new year in high school, and looking for a club to join. She walks into the Light Music Club’s room, thinking it is about playing simple instruments. However, the club is a full-fledged band! While Yui decides to leave, the club members manage to convince her to stay, sparking a new passion inside her.
K-On! Follows the Yui and the three girls as they simply have a good time goofing around and practicing from time to time, learning to live life one step at a time!
Tonari no Seki-Kun:
Seki-Kun is a true backbencher, he never pays attention in class and is always playing with something on his study desk.
His class partner, Yokoi tries her best to study, but is always distracted by Seki’s antics and his ability to get away with them.
With each episode being only 7 minutes long, this is an easy binge-watch as you watch Seki wage a war in Shogi, play dominoes, and even make his volcano!
My Roommate is a Cat:
Although, Subaru Mikazuki has always been a bit of a hermit, he stops communicating with people unless it’s absolutely necessary after his parents die in an accident. Rather, he works as a mystery writer from home most of the time.
When he comes upon a stray cat that he calls Haru, everything changes for him. He is hesitant to assume the role at first, but he soon becomes devoted. Taking care of her makes him socially awkward. In spite of himself, he quickly befriends people.
Even though that would be motivational enough, the show goes on. It also depicts Haru’s viewpoint as she transitions from being a resource-poor vagrant to having a true home with a reliable person.
Buddy Daddies:
Buddy Daddies is basically like Spy X Family if Anya was taken in by two guys instead of Loid and Yor. A narrative about two hitmen may not sound like very healthy stuff, but things take a turn for the better if those hitmen adopt a little child and discover meaning and purpose in their lives for the first time.
That’s the main idea behind Buddy Daddies. The fact that Kazuki and Rei are actually improving as humans as a result of raising Miri is what makes it so amazing.
Miri’s personality is quite realistic, which is another fantastic quality. It’s natural to think about kids you may know in your personal life while watching her; you can even feel nostalgic for your own early years.
Skip and Loafer:
And finally, we got Skip and Loafer, an anime that’s so heartwarming, you would basically go to Japan and make the studio make more of it just to make you sane throughout the day!
Mitsumi Iwakura has high ambitions about what she wants to do to improve the world when she moves from her little town to the big city. But when she starts at her new school, things don’t exactly go as planned. She arrives late for class on the first day, and her classmates don’t get along with her right away.
Fortunately, Sosuke Shima, a fellow first-year student, becomes her new friend, meaning she won’t have to go through it alone.
Well, that’s all from our recommendations. Tune in next time to see more like these. Until then, Ja ne!
