Every Important Character Death in Jujutsu Kaisen
A surprising amount of deaths in Jujutsu Kaisen have shaped so much of the plot and our main protagonists.
Jujutsu Kaisen is infamous for eliminating its characters as if there was a deadpool.
We will cover every relevant character that has passed away and divide them based on arcs.
This includes all relevant cursed spirits but Finger Bearers do not count. They all died anyway.
Season 1
There are not too many relevant deaths in Season 1’s arcs but each of them is important to Yuji’s growth.
Wasuke Itadori
The first death of the series is from the protagonist’s grandfather. This death shaped Yuji’s values and goal to ensure every human he encounters receives a dignified death.
Nagi Yoshino
As part of Mahito’s plan, Nagi was killed by a Cursed Spirit lured by a Sukuna finger that Mahito left behind.
This event motivates Junpei to become a cursed user.
Junpei Yoshino
Due to being bullied, Junpei was Mahito’s target to twist into a darker person to fight against Yuji Itadori.
However before fully reconciling with his new friend Yuji, Mahito appears and turns Junpei into a Transfigured Human, ending his life.
Eso and Kechizu
Two of the three Death Paintings revived by Mahito, Eso and Kechizu were sent to Yasohachi Bridge to retrieve one of Sukuna’s fingers but were both killed in a battle with Yuji Itadori and Nobara Kugisaki.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0
The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film was set a year before the start of the story but would be featured after Season 1.
Rika Orimoto
Rika was Yuta Okkotsu’s childhood friend who died in a tragic accident.
Overcome with grief, Yuta unwittingly revived her as a cursed spirit.
By accepting her love and telling her to move on, Yuta would allow Rika’s spirit to pass on but leave residual cursed energy for Yuta to gain the shikigami that bears Rika’s name.
Suguru Geto
As Satoru Gojo’s best friend, he was considered one of the “Strongest” but due to the death of Riko Amanai and the existence of the “monkey” Toji Fushiguro, Geto sought a world only for jujutsu sorcerers.
In this endeavor, Geto pursued Yuta Okkotsu’s cursed spirit friend Rika to empower his forces, leading to a battle that mortally wounded him.
Gojo would witness his friend’s final moments but unbeknowst to either of them, Geto’s body would be used to house the sinister villain, Kenjaku, for his plans to seal Gojo and initiate the Culling Games.
Gojo’s Past Arc
The start of Season 2 takes place ten years before the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen’s main story, focusing on Gojo’s past and how he became the Strongest.
Riko Amanai
A Star Plasma Vessel, Riko was hunted down by the Star Religious Group, a cult that worshipped a pure version of Tengen.
Although Riko spent some carefree days in Okinawa under Gojo’s care, upon entering the Tombs of the Star, she would be shot by Toji Fushiguro, the hired gun of the Star Religious Group.
Riko’s death triggered the change and separation of Gojo and Suguru Geto’s lives.
Toji Fushiguro
Born with a Heavenly Restriction that erases all cursed energy in his body, Toji was treated as an outcast of the conservative Zen’in family and eventually became a mercenary hired by the Star Religious Group.
With his superhuman might, Toji challenges Satoru Gojo but was killed during their final battle.
Before dying, he would tell Gojo about his son Megumi.
This is not the end, however, as a cursed user named Ogami used her Seance technique to reincarnate Toji in the body of one of her “grandsons”.
This did not end well for Ogami as Toji’s Heavenly restriction removed the Seance technique’s control over him, allowing him to rampage until eventually choosing to kill himself when seeing Megumi take the Fushiguro name instead of Zen’in.
Shibuya Incident Arc
The event that led to the deaths of thousands in the Shibuya ward of Tokyo, we see more named characters killed here than anywhere else.
Kokichi Muta
Muta was the pilot behind the Ultimate Mechamaru robotic puppets, made as a result of Muta;s Heavenly Restriction that granted him immense cursed energy at the cost of his body.
Through a deal with Mahito, he managed to heal himself but would die trying to stop the Curse.
Hanami
Although he previously survived Gojo’s Hollow Purple, his final encounter with the Strongest Sorcerer would lead to the Cursed Spirit’s death, his weakened body crushed against a wall by Gojo’s Limitless.
Dagon
After losing Hanami, Dagon matured and fought against Naobito, Maki, Nanami and Megumi in his Domain Expansion yet would fall to the unexpected arrival of a reincarnated Toji.
Naobito Zen’in
To avenge Dagon’s death, Jogo burns Maki, Nanami, and Naobito, with the Zen’in clan leader completely turned to ash.
Naobito’s death sparked the succession crisis in the Zen’in clan and the events of the massacre.
Jogo
Trying to win Sukuna’s favor, Jogo fights his best against Sukuna but would be disintegrated by Sukuna’s Divine Flame.
Kento Nanami
Severely burnt by Jogo earlier, he would turn to Yuji, letting the boy take care of the rest before Mahito destroys his body.
Mahito
After retreating from his final fight with Yuji Itadori, Mahito would be absorbed by Kenjaku for his ultimate plan to use Mahito’s completed Idle Transfiguration to activate the Reincarnated Vessels and new Sorcerers for the Culling Games.
Culling Game
The deadly battle royale to realize the Merger with Tengen, the Culling Games saw numerous new and old sorcerers killed for points.
Kaori Itadori
We learn through a vision that Yuji’s mother, Kaori, was dead by the time her body was possessed by Kenjaku, who used her body to bear Yuji.
Reggie Star
The reincarnated sorcerer with the power to recreate items out of contracts would fight against Megumi in a battle of wits until he was taken care of by Megumi’s Divine Dog: Totality. Curious about the boy’s fate, Reggie would transfer his points to Megumi.
Mai Zen’in
Tossed into the disciplinary pit together with her twin Maki, Mai sacrifices her life, along with the remainder of Maki’s cursed energy, to create the Split Soul Katana and thus initiate the Zen’in Clan Massacre.
Naoya Zen’in
Originally, Naoya was killed by Maki during the Zen’in Clan Massacre but his rage allowed him to be reborn as a Cursed Spirit who would still finished off by his original killer.
Masamichi Yaga
Jujutsu Headquarters slated him for execution for “inciting Gojo and Geto” but his ability to create entities such as Panda made him a threat to the elders, which led Gakuganji to be ordered to kill Yaga.
Together with another sorcerer, Gakuganji succeeded but Yaga imparts information about how to create abrupt-mutation Cursed Corpses and gives his final words as a curse to the elder.
Yuki Tsukumo
As a former Star Plasma Vessel, Yuki guarded Tengen’s chambers and would lose her life after using her Star Rage to create a black hole that was supposed to take Kenjaku down with her.
Ryo Ishigori
Although an impressive fighter in his match against Yuta, Ishigori would be easily sliced up by Sukuna.
Tsumiki and Yorozu
Yorozu’s appearance through possession of Megumi’s stepsister sparked Sukuna’s transfer from Yuji to Megumi.
To bury Megumi’s soul, Sukuna kills Yorozu, who leaves him a copy of his weapon Kamutake.
Tengen
After Kenjaku defeated Tengen’s bodyguards, Choso and Yuki, Tengen would fall under Cursed Spirit Manipulation, given that Tengen was closer to a Cursed Spirit than a human, eventually turning into a Cursed Womb for Sukuna to consume to begin the Merger.
After Sukuna’s defeat, Tengen’s remains would be used to maintain the destabilized Pure Barriers until another solution could be found.
Shinjuku Showdown
The final arc of Jujutsu Kaisen also witnesses some of the most important deaths of the series.
Jujutsu Elders
There were two groups of elders killed. Kenjaku killed the ones who were in favor of Geto’s execution while Gojo took care of the rest when he came back.
New Shadow Style Head
To ensure the sorcerers could use Simple Domain and prevent her brother from losing his life, Mei-mei kills the reclusive New Shadow School head, who had acquired centuries of life from the students through the Simple Domain’s binding vow.
Mahoraga
After acquiring Megumi’s body, Sukuna used Mahoraga’s adaptation to face off against Gojo but was distracted by Gojo to be hit by Hollow Purple.
Satoru Gojo
Arguably the single biggest death in all of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo would lose his life in the battle against Sukuna’s World Dismantle but in an afterlife scene, he expressed satisfaction with the life he led.
Gojo’s body was used by Yuta to combat Sukuna but ever since Yuta returned to his original body in Chapter 269, the fate of Gojo remains uncertain.
Hajime Kashimo
Immediately after Gojo’s death, Kashimo would take his turn to face Sukuna but Sukuna would reincarnate into his four-armed Heian form and destroyed Kashimo with a World Dismantle.
Kenjaku
After an entertaining bout with Fumihiko Takaba, Kenjaku was distracted enough to lose his head to Yuta but not before seeing the Cursed Spirit Manipulation technique undone, unleashing hordes of curses, and bringing Tengen’s Cursed Womb to Sukuna.
Yuta would have Rika eat the head after taking care of the Cursed Spirits.
However, he may not be quite dead as Takaba might have recreated Kenjaku through his Comedian technique.
Choso
To overcome the massive wave from Sukuna’s Divine Flame, Choso puts up a blood barrier to protect his younger brother Yuji at the cost of his own life. The two would talk in a vision, with Yuji and Choso thanking each other for their presence before Choso is completely incinerated by Sukuna’s Divine Flames.
Uraume
Witnessing Sukuna’s defeat, Uraume declares that it is pointless to go on and seemingly vanishes from existence, ending their battle with Hakari.
Ryomen Sukuna
After a grueling, lengthy struggle in Shinjuku, the King of Curses falls through a combination of Yuji’s Soul Dismantle weakening Sukuna’s hold over Megumi, Nobara’s Resonance through the final Sukuna finger and Yuji’s Black Flash.
Sukuna would separate from Megumi’s body and emerge as a blob of flesh that would slowly fade away in Yuji’s hands, cursing the brat that brought him lo.
