Claymore Makes a Surprising Revival After 11 Years

Claymore is set to return after 11 years but in a new, bolder format.

On March 12, 2025, it was announced that a live-action adaptation of the dark fantasy manga “Claymore” by is in the works.

This will be done by CBS Studios and will have Masi Oka as an executive producer.

CBS has produced multiple hit shows, including NCIS and Criminal Minds, and Claymore will be their first manga adaptation.

Meanwhile, Oka is famous for playing the role of Hiro in the American superhero drama television series “Heroes”, so he will likely have a starring role among the cast.

Additionally, Oka is a well-known manga fan and even co-produced Netflix ‘s Death Note live-action movie.

It is noted that Claymore is a shonen action series with a majority female cast, as it is the story of superhuman knights called Claymores that are compromised exclusively of women, except for one, Isley.

These Claymore are named after their swords and hunt down shape-shifting monsters called Yoma, yet in truth are themselves half-Yoma.

About Claymore

Claymore was a dark fantasy manga written and illustrated by Yagi Norihiro, first for Monthly Shōnen Jump from June 6, 2001 to  June 6, 200 but the magazine would be replaced by Jump Square, where Claymore would be written from November 2, 2007 – October 4, 2014.

Claymore would be adapted into a 26-episode anime produced by Studio Madhouse (Death Note, Hunter x Hunter 2011) from April 4 to September 26, 2007.

Claymore is the story of Claire, the weakest of 47 claymores, silver-eyed female knights who have the means to fighting demons called Yoma.
