Dragon Ball Creator And Manga Legend Akira Toriyama Passes Away Due To Acute Subdural Hematoma
The editors of Weekly Shonen Jump and Shueisha have also shared their condolences, along with Toyotaro, author of DBS manga.
The entire anime and manga industry and fans alike mourn for the unfortunate demise of the legendary and beloved mangaka of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama. The official Dragon Ball website conveyed the news that the author passed away on March 1, 2024, at the age of 68 due to an acute subdural hematoma.
This is a grave ailment that poses a significant mortality risk, especially in elderly individuals and those with profound brain injury.
Acute subdural hematomas are the most severe form, as they frequently result in substantial brain injury.
Individuals who manage to survive an acute subdural hematoma may experience a prolonged period of recuperation, potentially resulting in physical impairments and cognitive impairments, including memory and speech difficulties.
Subacute and chronic hematomas typically have a more favorable prognosis. Typically, individuals who possess the physical ability to undergo surgery ultimately achieve complete recuperation. However, due to the advanced age of individuals with hematomas, they may lack the physical strength necessary to survive the treatment. And that’s probably what happened to Toriyama.
His family and friends held a private funeral service to respect Toriyama’s secluded life. An official statement came from Toriyama’s own manga studio, “BIRD STUDIO,” and Akio Iyoku’s own company, “Capsule Corporation Tokyo”.
Toriyama’s fame has spread across the world as the whole world mourns for his death. The editors of Weekly Shonen Jump and Shueisha have also shared their condolences along with the author’s personally chosen successor, Toyotaro, author of the Dragon Ball Super manga.

About Dragon Ball:
Dragon Ball is a manga series by Akira Toriyama. It first began its serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1984.
The manga was later adapted into a multitude of animated series, movies, and games.
The franchise consists of five different anime series, about 21 animated movies, and around 10 games spanning various platforms, from Famicon to Playstation and Xbox.
Synopsis of the Dragon Ball anime:
Goku Son is a young boy who lives in the woods all alone—that is, until a girl named Bulma runs into him in her search for a set of magical objects called the “Dragon Balls.”
Since the artefacts are said to grant one wish to whoever collects all seven, Bulma hopes to gather them and wish for a perfect boyfriend.
Goku happens to be in possession of a dragon ball, but unfortunately for Bulma, he refuses to part ways with it, so she makes him a deal: he can tag along on her journey if he lets her borrow the dragon ball’s power.
With that, the two set off on the journey of a lifetime.
