In a Twitter space on October 8, Hiro Mashima, the author of Fairy Tail, confirms that the sequel “Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest” will be going on for longer than he originally planned.

Mashima intends to add more battles for Natsu to engage in for the rest of the series, implying that the current arc is not the final arc or anywhere close to the end.

Considering the introduction of a revived Zero and Oracion Sechs, it is possible that Natsu’ bout with Ignia will not be as conclusive or he will fight his Dragon God brother in another time since the war with the Black Wizard Faris has only just begun anyway.

Mashima also mentions that “characters from the past will appear” and hints at the appearance of someone who hasn’t appeared yet will be very surprising.

This might not be Zero since he has already made an appearance but this could be the return of a former iconic villain or supporting character that has yet to feature in the sequel.

Although the Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest manga will not end this year or even the next, Mashima clarifies that the manga will not reach 300 chapters.

However Mashima is not sure when exactly he plans to end the story as he is always stretching out the story anyway.

This means that the manga will go beyond 200 chapters and might at best reach 250 chapters.

The manga releases chapters once every two weeks, resulting in over 25 chapters per year.

This could mean that 100 Years Quest will be ending in 2027 the earliest.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest takes place a year after the events of the Alvarez Empire Arc as Natsu, Lucy, Happy, Gray, Wendy, Charle, and Erza journey to Guiltina to seal the Five Dragon Gods, who are said to have escaped Acnologia and gained greater power than the King of Dragons.
