Jujutsu Kaisen 4th Popularity Poll Shows SHOCKING Placements

Popularity polls for manga are a great way for authors to engage with the fandom.

With Jujutsu Kaisen as the best selling series of 2024 so far, we can see how well-received the story’s characters are, at least in their home base in Japan.

With the release of Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 267, we get the updated popularity poll for the series.

The top ranks are, in ascending order:

10. TOJI FUSHIGURO- 3,218 votes

Toji Fushiguro ends up in the top 10, his highest placement being 9th in the 2nd popularity poll where he first appeared and his lowest placement being 11th in the 3rd popularity poll.

Toji also has quite the reputation due to his appearance, relation to Megumi and impressive performance, fighting without jujutsu against the peak of modern jujutsu, Satoru Gojo, and the gauntlet of curse users and curses in the Shibuya Incident Arc.

9. ROYMEN SUKUNA – 4,077 votes

The King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna, rises in popularity due to his recurring appearances in the latest Shinjuku Showdown Arc and of course being the main antagonist of the series.

Before this, Sukuna was 10th to 13th place in the previous polls, during times where his presence was limited due to his restrictions inside Yuji’s body.

8️. KENTO NANAMI – 4,162 votes

Even after dying in the Shibuya Arc in 2020, Kento Nanami maintains a solid lead in the top 10 as back-to-back 5th placer in the first two polls.

Along with having the soothing, husky voice of Kenjiro Tsuda, Nanami is a well-received character due to his rich personal story and appealing design.

7️. YUTA OKKOTSU – 5,991 votes

The protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the prequel movie, Yuta Okkotsu stays in 7th place even when he held 5th place in the previous popularity poll.

Yuta’s role as a one-shot protagonist already establishes him.

However, with a wide gap in appearance between Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and his reappearance in Chapter 137

6️. CHOSO – 6,247 votes

Choso’s final rank in 6th place is a promotion from his 7th place finish in the 2nd poll and his drop into top 10 in the 3rd poll.

It seems Yuji’s older brother has gained momentum in popularity, while Aoi Todo is not in the top 10 after the 1st popularity poll.

5️. NAOYA ZENIN – 11,731 votes

The most surprising entry here is Naoya Zenin, the misogynistic cousin of Maki and Mai Zenin.

Naoya also appears in 10th place in the 2nd poll and 6th in the 3rd poll.

Naoya is also noted to be the only character in the top 10 that has yet to be adapted into the anime.

4️. SUGURU GETO – 19,156 votes

Suguru Geto holds the most consistent rank among the top 5, being 4th place in the 2nd poll until this poll over the course of two years.

This is attributed to his closeness to Satoru Gojo, with the pair being considered the primary ship of the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom.

The top 3 are something else, having maintained their spots consistently throughout all four popularity polls.

3️. MEGUMI FUSHIGURO – 28,502 votes

Even after a prolonged absence as Sukuna’s vessel starting in Chapter 212, Megumi Fushiguro maintains his place in the top 3.

Megumi has held 1st place in the 2nd and 3rd poll. This makes sense considering how the fanbase is attracted to his high potential as a sorcerer and how Akutami originally propped him to be the protagonist before settling on Yuji.

2️. YUJI ITADORI – 48,131 votes

Yuji Itadori maintains his 2nd place rank held since the 3rd popularity poll even though he used to be 1st in the 1st popularity poll. Although lacking screentime, significance and some level of personal investment compared to other shonen protagonists, Yuji maintains a significant lead

1️. SATORU GOJO – 113,392 votes

Although people believe that Satoru Gojo is the most popular character in the series, the 4th popularity poll is the first time Gojo is placed top 1, being 3rd in the 1st poll in 2019, 2nd in the 2nd poll in 2022, and 3rd again in the 3rd poll in 2023.

This reflects his significance to carrying the story’s popularity to the international audience. Although the author has a known disdain towards the eyemask-wearing sensei, Gojo is arguably the face of Jujutsu Kaisen itself due to how easily recognized he is.

Other Placements

Of the trio of teenaged protagonists, Nobara Kusigaki is in last place, stopping at number 14.

Nobara was 6th place in the 1st popularity poll but has since diminished in placement.

However, Nobara is just the second most popular female, behind 13th placer, Maki Zenin.

It is likely that Nobara’s absence from the story for four years has led to this placement, or perhaps the rising popularity of Maki among fans is on display.

Some interesting tidbits from the popularity poll: Gege Akutami, via his one-eyed cat avatar, received 155 votes and ranked 36th in the 4th Popularity Poll.

Previously, Akutami was 17th place in his own manga’s 1st popularity poll but has continually dipped until landing in his current rank.

Gege Akutami’s mother is also placed at 121st rank, which is far below her 55th place in the 1st popularity poll.
