Kagurabachi Bags HUGE Win

Kagurabachi has taken the online world by storm even in its first chapter in 2023, with many fans creating memes of an actual anime adaptation already existing.

That joke might become reality soon enough.

On August 28th, the Next Manga Awards livestreamed their award show and announced that the 2024 winner is Kagurabachi, with 101,836 votes, from both Japanese and overseas fans.

Voting began on June 23rd. Results were announced on August 28th.

For some fans, winning the Next Manga Award guarantees the manga’s continued survival with boosted sales and the inevitability of an anime adaptation in the future.

The Next Manga Award is an annual award for manga series presented by Kadokawa Corporation’s Da Vinci magazine and Niconico streaming website that is divided into two categories for print and web manga.

For a series to qualify, it must be currently serializing and release no more than five volumes after January 1. Fans can cast votes online. After 2021, an English website was launched for fans outside Japan to vote.

Among the manga that received this prestigious award were My Hero Academia by Kohei Horikoshi (2015), Kaguya-sama: Love is War by Aka Akasaka (2017), Spy x Family (2019), Undead Unlock by Yoshifumi Tozuka (2020), and in 2021, Oshi no Ko by Akasaka won the print category and Kaiju No. 8 by Naoya Matsumoto won the web category.

All of these aforementioned manga would receive anime adaptations a year or so after winning the award.

Kagurabachi author Hokazono Takeru released a special celebratory illustration in honor of the win and to thank the fans for voting for his series.

About Kagurabachi

Kagurabachi is a manga series written and illustrated by Hokazono Takeru for Weekly Shonen Jump since September 2023.

The series has reached three tankōbon volumes as of July 2024, having sold 350,000 copies, including digital copies, and become a viral hit immediately upon release.

Kagurabachi is the story of a young man named Chihiro Rokuhira, who seeks the missing Enchanted Blades forged by his father and revenge for his death at the hands of a gang of malicious sorcerers.
