Magi Creator’s Latest Manga Announces Ending

Orient
ORIENT © 2018 by Shinobu Ohtaka/Kodansha Ltd.

Shinobu Ohtaka is famous for her “One Thousand and One Nights” inspired manga series, “Magi” (2009-2017) and its prequel series “The Adventures of Sinbad” (2013-2018).

Her new series, “Orient” will end on October 9, 2024 in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine issue 11/2024.

Unlike the Magi series, Orient is set in Sengoku Era Japan instead, focusing on a boy named Musashi (based on Musashi Miyamoto) who becomes a miner.

Japan at the time is under the tyrannical rule of Oni and the way of Bushi is banned after the demons are treated as heroes and the samurai as villains.

Musashi would form a Band of Bushi together with his childhood friend Kojiro Kanemaki (also based on Miyamoto’s rival Sasaki Kojiro).

Orient has been running since May 2018 when it was a weekly series under Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine. In February 2021, Orient serialized as a monthly series under Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, which published Attack on Titan (2009-2021).

Throughout its 6 year run, Orient has released over 21 volumes.

An anime television series adaptation by A.C.G.T aired from January to September 2022 with 24 episodes listed.
