Naruto’s Kushina Uzumaki Voice Actress Emi Shinohara Passes Away

Emi Shinohara is the voice actress of Kushina Uzumaki, Naruto’s mother.

Japanese voice actress and singer Emi Shinohara has passed away on September 8, 2024 at the age of 61.

Her agency, 81 Produce, announced the news on September 10.

Shinohara had been undergoing treatment for an unspecified illness.

The company statement reads:

“Actress Shinohara Emi (real name Watanabe Emiko), who is affiliated with our company, passed away on September 8th, 2024, at the age of 61, while undergoing treatment for an illness, for which no treatment was effective. We would like to express our deepest gratitude for the kindness shown to us during her lifetime and would like to inform you of this sad news.”

Best known for bringing to life Kushina Uzumaki, the mother of Naruto, in Naruto Shippuden, Emi Shinohara was born on August 8th in Nagano Prefecture and married to tokusatsu actor Hiroshi Watari, famous for playing Den Iga, protagonist of Space Sheriff Sharivan.

She is also well-known as Makoto Kino or Sailor Jupiter from the Sailor Moon series, Mizuki Kaho in the anime Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, and Toyama Kaori in BanG Dream!, among others.
