This might be one of the biggest leaks in anime history, ladies and gentlemen. I’ve never seen anything like this!

It’s a dark day for Netflix, as Japan may not be giving them the rights to distribute crucial anime projects anymore. Somebody at Netflix and Crunchyroll screwed up big time as

  • 6 episodes of Dandadan season 1
  • All of the 12 episodes of Ranma 1/2 remake
  • 1st episode of Re:Zero season 3
  • All episodes of Terminator anime
  • The entire Mononoke film

have been leaked on various torrent and forum platforms like Nyaa, 5chan and BitTorrent so far.

What’s actually shocking is that these shows and movies were set to release in 2 months, i.e., October 2024 and Dandadan hasn’t even had an official release date revealed!

The leaks began with the opening and ending scenes of various anime, but soon escalated to entire episodes being released online. It started with posting Dandadan opening and ending themes on Twitter and the leakers went, “This isn’t even my final form.”

Soon, episodes of not only Dandadan but also Ranma 1/2, Re:Zero and the others started popping out of nowhere on Nyaa and 5chan. And these were some of THE MOST anticipated shows that were to air in Fall 2024!

The majority of these are Netflix shows, but Crunchyroll currently owns the distribution rights to Re:Zero Season 3.

The anime industry has experienced several significant leaks recently, but it’s rare for almost an entire season to be leaked online. In April, Crunchyroll faced criticism after episodes from at least five Spring 2024 anime series were leaked about a week before their scheduled premieres.

The initial episodes of the third season of KonoSuba, titled Sound!, Euphonium Season 3, The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases, Astro Note, and As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I’ll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World, were all prematurely divulged several days before their intended release dates.

These leaks were thought to have stemmed from pre-screening events, where individuals with access to the anime files shared them online. A similar incident likely occurred when Tower of God Episode 2, which premiered early at Anime Expo 2024, was leaked online with the convention’s watermark.

Following this, Re:Zero Season 3’s pre-screening was promptly canceled at Japan Expo Paris 2024 to prevent further leaks, however, some say that the leaks came from the episode 1 screening at Anime Expo 2024.

These leaks even made a staff member quote Tweet and express their deep dissatisfaction on how much hard work and money they’ve put in to make people enjoy these shows in an authorized way.

In light of these events, I request that anyone reading this piece not check out the leaks of the above mentioned anime and watch them when they officially release on streaming platforms to support the animators and team members who shed their blood and sweat working on these shows and entertaining us all.

And it’s high time these streaming platforms upscale their security to prevent such things from happening again.
