For 40 years, Dragon Ball has been one of the most recognized anime internationally, with Goku and his exploits inspiring countless children and adults.

On September 4, 2024, Toei releases the full trailer for the new Dragon Ball anime, Dragon Ball DAIMA, the series made for the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Ball manga.

It was also announced on September 2nd that the Dragon Ball DAIMA anime will begin broadcast on October 11, 2024, with the first episode being 32 minutes long, 10 minutes longer than the normal 22-minute episode.

According to Toei Animation localization director Daniel Castañeda in 2023, it has been hinted that there will be around 20 episodes for the series.

At the Dragon Ball Special Panel at New York Comic Con 2023, a teaser was released on October 13, 2023, showing some sneak peaks into the new chapter of Dragon Ball.

The story and character design of the show specifically are credited to Akira Toriyama himself as the last Dragon Ball anime he worked on before passing away on March 2024.

Dragon Ball executive producer Akio Iyoku confirms that Dragon Ball Daima will be a completely original story, with no relation to the ongoing events of the Dragon Ball Super manga.

Trailer Breakdown

The trailer begins, showing different locations as an old man’s voice could be heard chanting “Portarat Doddorusie, Pupilit Paro” twice.

This likely indicates that a type of Dragon Ball set might be used to set the stage for the events of the story.

We see most of the Dragon Ball cast (namely Goku, Krillin, Vegeta, Chi chi, Bulma, Piccolo, Yamcha, Mr. Satan, the Supreme Kai Shin, and Master Roshi, with Goten and Trunks as babies) turning into children.

We cut to scenes of Vegeta and Goku training or fighting as adults and a villainous conspiracy involving what appears to be Kai or Demons.

The Z-team meets Glorio and Ranzy and together with a younger Shin, kid Goku and team enter the Demon Realm, a place mostly given focus in side stories in the franchise.

After a montage of the new cast and what to look forward to, the trailer ends on Goku’s Kamehameha, all to the tune of the show’s first opening “Jaka Jaan” by Zedd feat. C&K.

The anime will be a collaboration between Toei Productions (Dragon Ball, One Piece) and A-1 Pictures (Seven Deadly Sins Seasons 1-2, Kaguya-Sama: Love is War).
