Toei Animation’s One Piece anime has always been popular amongst anime fans over its 20+ year run and 2024 is no exception. Thanks to the live-action series by Netflix, the One Piece franchise, as a whole, gained a lot of popularity worldwide, on par with Naruto and maybe even Dragon Ball.

Okay, that may appear as CAP for some y’all but this news will at least make you think, “Hmmm… it’s coming closer to their popularity.

IMDb confirmed on July 18, 2024, that One Piece anime has emerged as the highest-rated TV show (general category) of 2024 so far, as per the site’s user ratings.

As of the midpoint of the year, the series has received a rating of 9.0 out of 10, surpassing both live-action TV shows such as Shogun, The Boys, and animated series like X-Men 97. What’s more, One Piece is the ONLY anime series to achieve a position in the top 10 and the only TV series, in general, to receive a score of 9.0 or higher.

This is fueled by a lot of high ratings for each of One Piece’s episodes, including Episode 1100 “Luffy vs. Lucci!”, which became the highest-rated One Piece episode on the website! Even episode 1112 got so much praise that fans started comparing it to 1015, which may state to be THE BEST One Piece yet!

The top 10 highest-rated TV series in 2024, according to IMDb users, are as follows (as of writing this piece):

On July 17, 6 highly acclaimed shows received Emmy nominations, reaffirming their widespread appeal among both audiences and critics. Notably, the list underscores the rising prominence of animated series, with “X-Men ’97” and “One Piece” both securing spots in the top 10.

According to IMDb, the series needed to have its season premieres between January 1, 2024, and June 30, 2024, and meet a minimum vote threshold within that period to be eligible for the Top-Rated Shows of 2024 list. While the rankings may shift as more shows debut throughout the year, the current list provides an early indication of what might dominate the year-end charts.
