One Piece Anime Celebrates 25th Anniversary

On October 21, 2024, Toei Animations released an official video celebrating the 25th anniversary of the One Piece anime adaptation.

The 1 minute, 43 second trailer plays to the tune of the Drums of Liberation, showing the events of One Piece year by year.

In 1999, we begin with Monkey D. Luffy emerging from the barrel, meeting Zoro and Nami, and ending with Shanks giving Luffy the Straw Hat

The One Piece anime began airing on October 20, 1999, with eight episodes ending on the Orange Town Arc.

In 2000, we meet Usopp in Syrup Village, Sanji bows before Zeff in gratitude as he joins the Straw Hats, and Luffy puts the Straw Hat on Nami to comfort her before facing Arlong, ending the East Blue Saga here.

In 2001, we see Chopper crying as he sees the image of falling cherry-blossoms on the snow and Vivi huddling with the crew before entering Alabasta.

In 2002, the Straw Hats show the X mark, which was used to counter Bon Clay’s shapeshifting, as their promise to maintain their bond to Princess Vivi.

In 2003, we meet Blackbeard and hear his speech about how dreams will never die in the Jaya Arc.

In 2004, Zoro, Robin, Wyper, and former God Gan Fall confront Enel in the Skypiea Arc, ending with Luffy ringing the Golden Bell.

In 2005, we were sadly greeted with Luffy vs Usopp due to the latter’s choice to save the Merry against Luffy’s orders and we meet Franky in the Water 7 Arc.

In 2006, Luffy gains his first powerup, Gear 2 and save Robin in Enies Lobby.

In 2007, we see the change of ships from the Going Merry to the Thousand Sunny.

In 2008, we meet Brook and Zoro says that nothing happened in the Thriller Bark Saga.

In 2009, Luffy punched a Celestial Dragon and met up with Bon Clay in Impel Down, notably skipping the scene where the Straw Hats were separated by Bartholomew Kuma in Sabaody.

In 2010, Luffy faces off against the three Admirals.

But in 2011, Luffy sees his brother Ace die.

2012 was the year of the post-timeskip reunion of the Straw Hats as they head into Fishman Island, notably featuring General Franky.

In 2013, the Straw Hats all switch body due to Trafalgar Law’s powers in Punk Hazard.

In 2014, Sanji kicks Doflamingo and Luffy reunites with his long-lost brother Sabo.

In 2015, we see the start of Luffy vs Doflamingo, which concluded in 2016.

In 2017, skipping the Zou Arc, we see Luffy fight against Sanji, who is set to marry Big Mom’s daughter Pudding in Whole Cake Island.

In 2018, we see Luffy’s fight against Katakuri, with the spotlight on Gear 4 Snakeman.

In 2019, Luffy faces off against Kaido for the very first time in his Dragon form.

In 2020, Sanji and Zoro reveal themselves after Yasuie’s execution.

In 2021, Jinbe returns from Whole Cake Island and officially joins the Straw Hats in Wano.

In 2022, Luffy faces off against the two Yonko, Big Mom and Kaido.

In 2023, Luffy awakens Gear 5.

In 2024, we see Egghead Island, which is where the anime currently is.

The anime is on break starting October 20, 2024 and will resume on April 2025, with 21 episodes of the Fishman Island Remaster taking its place.
