From August 21 to 23, we received confirmation of four new actors joining the cast for Season 2 of the One Piece anime adaptation. On August 21st, it was announced that Mark Harelik would play Dr. Hiriluk, and Katey Segal would play Dr. Kureha.
Previously, the actress Jaime-Lee Curtis, an avid fan of One Piece, expressed interest in portraying Dr. Kureha but weeks prior to the official casting, it was confirmed that Jaime-Lee Curtis would not be featured at all in the adaptation.

On August 22nd, we received confirmation that Sendhil Ramamurthy would play Nefertari Cobra, the King of Arabasta. On August 23rd, it is revealed that Miss Wednesday, or Princess Nefertari Vivi would be played by Charithra Chandran. Both actors are noted to be from India.
Charithra Chandran would also relay a message upon the confirmation of her playing the role of Vivi.

However, some fans have pointed out an issue with the casting, that being the preference of Indian actors over Arab ones. That is because the characters Vivi and Cobra are royalty from the Arabasta Kingdom and Arabasta is noted to be inspired by Ancient Egypt. India is also referenced as a partial inspiration.
I honestly wish they had cast Arab actors for Cobra and Vivi since Oda clearly drew inspiration from Ancient Egypt for their characters, but it feels like no one really cares in Netflix pic.twitter.com/bjTYVUBxlC

as an Arab, Vivi and Arabasta were important to us. It feels personal because I saw myself in her. There's already very minimal to non-existent positive Arab representation in the media, you can't blame us for being rightfully upset at this being taken away from us.

Additionally, Matt Owens, one of the showrunners, revealed that he specifically fought for the story of the manga to remain intact. The executives initially wanted Season 2 to cover the entire Arabasta Saga, ending the story on Arabasta but Matt insisted on maintaining the plan to stop at Drum Island.
