Suzume Anime Movie Crosses 10 Million Ticket Sales
The movie is scheduled to hit American theaters on April 14
Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume anime film has hit another milestone. Suzume has officially sold over 10 million tickets in Japan, making it his third movie to do so.
The other two movies to do so were your name and Weathering With You.
As of February 5, which marked the 87th day for Suzume in Japanese theaters, the film has pulled in 13.41 billion yen, moving past Frozen 2 in Japan’s all-time box office to slide comfortably to 22nd place overall.
The special poster below was released to celebrate 10 million tickets sold.
The movie was both written and directed by Shinkai, who is known for Weathering with You and your name. Here is an official description of the plot of Suzume:
“On the other side of the door, was time in its entirety—
17-year-old Suzume’s journey begins in a quiet town in Kyushu when she encounters a young man who tells her, “I’m looking for a door.”
What Suzume finds is a single weathered door standing upright in the midst of ruins as though it was shielded from whatever catastrophe struck. Seemingly mesmerized by its power, Suzume reaches for the knob…
Doors begin to open one after another all across Japan, unleashing destruction upon any who are near. Suzume must close these portals to prevent further disaster.
The stars
The sunset
The morning sky
Within that realm, it was as though all time had melted together in the sky—
Drawn in by this mysterious door, Suzume’s journey is about to begin.”
The movie is scheduled to hit American theaters on April 14.
