Azuma’s battle with the immortal Bador Vlad ends in a blast from the past!

In the previous Choujin X chapter, Azuma reflects on how to defeat the seemingly unstoppable Vlad and seems to be moving towards Chaosifying.

Chapter 58.3 is titled “desire/cue”

Now we will see what the title means.

This chapter has 23 pages.

The chapter begins with a much younger Azuma talking to Tokio, who asks if he could use Azuma’s playstation so he could play Monster Farm.

However, Azuma says “no” as that is the rules of his house.

We then cut to Azuma eating alone in his house, with two more plates for empty seats.

This might indicate that Azuma has lost his parents for some time now and has probably avoided letting Tokio into his house.

Psychologically, Azuma is clinging to memories of his parents, who have disappeared.

Given Sui Ishida’s work on Tokyo Ghoul, the fact Azuma’s parents are missing is quite off-putting, not to mention how it seems that Azuma’s father disappeared immediately after showing him the tunnel.

We still do not know much about Azuma or his home life, so he is likely keeping a lot of secrets.

One angle to look at is that because Azuma’s parents abruptly left him, the young boy is coping with their loss by simulating experiences of them being around, such as cooking meals for them.

Another angle is that Azuma might have awakened his Choujin powers and accidentally killed his parents but there is no proof of this as of yet, though it is worth considering given the nature of memories in Ishida’s works.

We return to the flashback of Azuma’s dad taking him to the railroad at night, where Azuma is made to choose between right or left.

This was from his flashback in Chapter 19 when Azuma went to Kitasenchi (located in Osaka, Japan in real life) with his father and sees two tracks, with the right leading to Yamato but the left leading to somewhere Azuma does not know about.

So Azuma’s father takes him to a forest and they reach an abandoned tunnel, telling Azuma that the left leads nowhere.

Azuma’s values of justice were based on his policeman father but with this situation, his view that “to shirk justice is cowardice”, it might mean that making the right choice, a choice with a conscious design like the tracks leading to Yamato, is the only way to live.

However, Azuma now realizes that if the right choice is to run, then it only reinforces that they will always be meant to lose against an impossible foe like Vlad.

So Azuma asks what is beyond that dark tunnel that led nowhere.

Azuma imagines his younger self seeing his Cloaker form sitting on some rocks on a coastline.

When he uncloaks the figure, he could only see a body without a head yet still having its wrist chained to his neck but the body points at him.

We return to the fight and Azuma finally faces Vlad.

Throughout the chapter, Azuma constantly says “will”, holding back his desire, the title of the chapter.

The manga pages here follow what I would call the “Azuma pattern”, which resembles static (to represent a broken mentality) or the bleeding border made whenever a video game character is dying (which somewhat evokes Chapter 142 of Tokyo Ghoul:re, where Furuta declares the story Game Over to a dying Ken Kaneki).

The pattern first appears in Chapter 19: when Azuma lost his ear to Ririka Umezawa’s Paper ability and it is later

This pattern also resembles the spots on the hyena Azuma communicated with and the recent spot pattern on Zora’s body.

It does make sense to see this pattern because the chapter’s main story and flashback connects back to Chapter 19.

Throughout these pages, Azuma is wounded, even losing his right arm and have his throat crushed.

The pattern ends when Vlad crushes Azuma’s left eye after Azuma is uncloaked. Here, we see the panels chop Azuma’s dying face, as if it was slowly fading away.

In the darkness, Azuma resolves to kill, now his body fully cloaked as he seemingly flies up.

Azuma’s face transforms into a gun and fires a destructive, almost nuclear blast to destroy Bador Vlad’s body completely.

With that massive blast from Azuma’s makeshift gun, does this signal the true end of Vlad Bador, the seemingly immortal, the Bloodbath Choujin?

Chapter 58.3 will be the final chapter for the upcoming Volume 11 of Choujin X.
