NANAO REVEALS HER ZANPAKUTO! What to Expect in Bleach: Thousand Blood War Arc Episode 37!

Nanao’s Zanpakuto might be linked to some crazy Bleach theories lately.

Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Episode 37 is titled, “Shadows Gone”.

This episode will adapt the end of Chapter 649: “The Theater Suicide Scene 3” all the way to the beginning of Chapter 654: “Deadman Standing”.

This is the first time in the TYBW adaptation where the episode title is anime-original, likely due to censorship issues from “The Theater Suicide Scene” chapters or the fact that Kyouraku’s Bankai has already ended.

With this, only three episodes remain for Cour 3.

A wounded Kyouraku appears in a dark place, which could be his shadow pocket dimension produced through Kageoni.

In this episode, we see a younger Nanao and her mother in a flashback.

We see Lille Barro’s Second Vollstandig form, which transforms him more into a bird-like form and he looks pretty good in animated form so far.

Lastly, we see Kyoukotsu in the canon anime at last.

Shinichiro Ueda returns to Cour 3 after directing Episode 32: “The Holy Newborn”.

This is a much more emotional and plot-relevant episode and as the director of the spectacular Episode 7: “Born in the Dark”, Ueda’s direction and storyboard would make the bond between Kyouraku and Nanao more impactful to the audience.

What to Expect

Lille the Chicken Man

Lille survives Kyouraku’s Bankai and takes on a second Vollstandig form, the only one we have seen so far, which parallels him with Espada No. 4 Ulquiorra Schifer’s Resurreccion: Seguna Etapa.

This gives him some new light-related powers while maintaining his invincibility, which meant that none of Kyouraku’s old tricks will work against him.

Due to the transformation, Lille’s voice will undergo its own change. Perhaps he might sound more chicken-like or annoying?

Nanao’s Past

The voice for Nanao’s mother will be Kikuko Inoue, who is quite established in the industry and recently voiced the Acrobatic Silky yokai from Dandadan, which means this is yet another emotional motherly role she plays for the Fall 2024 season.

We learn that Nanao’s clan, the Ise, were Shinto priests who were entrusted with carrying out important religiosu rites and protected sacred treasures , including their Zanpakuto Shinken Hakkyōken.

As a result, none of the Ise clan have their own Asauchi. Nanao’s sword is just a regular sword.

However, the family bore a curse, where only women would be born from the family and the men who married into the clan die an early death.

On the death of Shunsui’s brother, Soundscape to Ardor plays.

Wanting to free her daughter from the clan’s curse and burden, Nanao’s mother attempted to relinquish ownership over it by giving it to Shunsui Kyouraku for safekeeping and this was something Nanao saw.

However, because of this act, Nanao would lose her mother to a Central 46 verdict that Kyouraku could no prevent.

Although there is no major change that will be shown, we might potentially have a hint that there is something more to the Ise Clan, their Zanpakuto, and the relationship between Kyouraku and Nanao.

The episode ends on Kyouraku collapsing after the exhausting battle, right when the Chapter 654 title drops.

Next Episode Poem: Bazz-B

The next episode will feature Bazz-B’s poem:

“Bullet, Claw, Battle Flag, Short Sword
With my fingers bent, I wait for you”

These four weapons mentioned represent each of Burner Finger’s uses, from 1 to 4. This poem is directed at Haschwalth and Yhwach, the targets of his vengeance.

This is taken from Volume 69: “Against the Judgement”, which covers Chapter 623 of the same name to Chapter 632: “Friend 2”

Double-Episode Finale

Much like Cour 1, the last two episodes of Cour 3 will premiere together.

This has been anticipated as early as the start of the cour itself, with promotion and emphasis on the scenes with Bazz-B and Jugram Haschwalth, former friends turned distant coworkers and eventual enemies.

FINAL Episode Poem: Jugram Haschwalth

The Cour 3 final episode poem will come from Jugram Haschwalth:

“There is no pain
as long as I keep
my eyes on the balance scale.”

This is the Volume 70 poem, with the volume covering Chapters 633: “Friend 4” to Chapter 642: “BABY,HOLD YOUR HAND 5 [Eyes Are Open]”.

Haschwalth is the physical manifestation of Bleach’s core theme of balance and how people make decisions based on that, as experienced by antagonists such as Byakuya Kuchiki and the protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki himself when it came to his personal identity.

Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Episode 38 will be titled, “Friend”, the title of Volume 70 and will cover the rest of Chapter 630: “Twinned Twilight”, and the entirety of Chapters 631: “Friend” to the start of Chapter 635: “Hooded Enigma”, although the content might be split with the final episode.

This will be released on December 21, 2024, alongside Episode 39, whose title remains unknown as of the moment.
