Samura separates from Iori, which sets up his darker path to avert the Sword Saint’s Calamity!

In the previous Kagurabachi chapter, Yura and Samura’s conversation reveals the dark truth of the Seitei War and that the Sword Saint will unleash a Calamity in the near future.
Kagurabachi Chapter 73 is titled, “Morning Gray”
This chapter has 19 pages.
Caption: “Father and daughter, the broken seal of broken memories..”
The chapter cover is of the Samura father and daughter pair.
The chapter begins with Iori walking home while Samura talks to the people at the dojo.
Samura would later see his late ex-wife Inori’s shrine in their house to talk to her, expressing worry over Iori keeping the Samura surname.
Then Iori arrives, asking for dinner and tells Samura about how he became part of their lecture, resulting in her classmates giving her attention.
One asked if Iori was good with swords.
Although Samura notes that Iori does not need to become someone like him, he is glad that she is adjusting well to school.
Suddenly, Iori feels a sharp pain on her head, which she said came from a fight.
Samura gets worried but Iori clarifies it was not a fight per se but because a boy called Samura killer, regardless of the lessons, which led to Iori being provoked to hit him.
However, Iori assures her father that it was an equal fight.
Iori says that this is the sort of thing she was training for and recalls what Inori said about Samura, a hopeless man but the one part about him that she respects is that he protected the country, which is where Iori gets her ambition from.
After reminding Iori of moderation, Samura would sincerely apologize to the father of the boy who started it with Iori but the man insists it is his son’s fault.
Another dojo student says there is a call from school as Iori goes home with her father, not in the mood to attend classes.
Suddenly, they see a pile of trash in front of their home, with Iori getting nervous at this.
As it turns out, some men left the trash and the graffiti, which we first saw in Chapter 66: “The Truth”
Samura approaches the gang of men, who reveal that they were not the only ones who vandalized the property and the man speaks out, wanting to know the truth about Samura, a story shared six months ago.
As it turns out, the Hishaku (Yura and the Bonsai sorcerer) were responsible for spreading the rumors about Samura being a murderer, the story Yura shared to Samura in the previous chapter.
By visiting him, Yura gave Samura his knowledge of the true story as a threat to Samura’s peace and it is manifested through these rumors that do not even have proof.
As Iori tries to clean up the graffiti, we learn that the scene of her classmates praising her…never happened.
On her first day, she was actually bullied by the boys, who ganged up on her and caused her to fall off her seat.
Even the teacher believes the rumors
This makes Iori worry about losing her father if this pressure gives him a hard time, so she tries to hide the fact she is being harassed and even lost some of her initial friends in school.
Nonetheless, Iori resolves to get stronger so she will not be able to lose anyone.
At night, Samura struggles to sleep, thinking how Iori has struggled alone ever since she lost her mother and the six month gap and then is in front of Iori’s room, attempting to open the door as he resolves to face the future.
However, instead, he is reminded of the people he has killed, reels his arm back from opening the door.
Iori is also clearly having nightmares in her sleep.
After a year and half together, Iori is sent to live with Inori’s younger sister, which concludes Samura’s time as a father to Iori.
Now we return to the scene where a young Chihiro met Samura at his house in Chapter 51: “Samura”.
Here, Samura tells Shiba about how people were told about the Sword Saint’s sin, which Shiba also heard from the Gremlin Kamunabi leader, and he wonders if the Calamity will come.
Recalling how the Gremlin Kamunabi assured him last chapter, Samura tells Shiba to protect Kunishige for the sake of the future.
Kagurabachi Chapter 74 will be released on April 7, 2025.
Author’s comment: “Favorite Crayon-ShinChan movie? Glad you asked. Yakiniku Road. The fact they turn yakiniku into a shield (?) is crazy!”
