The Second Dandelion, a Second Power-Up! Choujin X Chapter 58.2 Spoilers
This is the second time a dandelion has appeared. The first was in Chapter 1, when both Tokio and Azuma gained their Choujin powers
In the previous chapter, Azuma is overwhelmed by the centaur form of Bador Vlad. How will he overcome one of Zora’s strongest soldiers?
Chapter 58.2 is titled, “demand/cue”
The chapter continues where we left with Azuma and Bador Vlad becoming hard to perceive with near-lightning fast speed
Suddenly, chains manifest from the ground through Azuma’s Creation to restrain the centaur form and Azuma leaps up to attack and creates Doom Block to completely crush Vlad’s body.
Vlad only has his hooves intact and activates his Blood Raise but Tagawa unleashes “Supreme Inflagration” to burn that as well as Denku’s Hiraishin: flying Lightning Heart
In the previous chapter, it was established that Vlad can raise from even the tiniest bit of blood and Vlad also acquires the blood of others to use as “resources”.
Azuma sees a crack and realizes Bador Vlad has been hiding blood on the ground formed from the holes Azuma’s chains left behind.
Vlad remarks that an old dog can still learn new tricks, which Vlad applied from fighting Azuma.
Something bounces around the area, which is Tagawa’s head that is held by Vlad’s hands and brought into the mouth on his chest.
Vlad assumes a new form, with spikes on what appears to be three heads joined together and bat wings connected to his arms.
BB is horrified that he was able to regenerate and somehow still retain his brains in that state.
Azuma is nervous about what to do as a massacre happens in his midst.
We see a well-illustrated page from Azuma’s back, showing Vlad murdering the Yamato Mori keepers.
Azuma has a flashback to a conversation he had with Ely, who asks what happens if Azuma comes across someone that is unaffected or undamaged by their abilities.
Azuma suggests to run against a being impervious to everything, even if people die.
Ely is surprised, believing he would still fight.
Azuma responds, saying that he still loses to Choujin and when he underestimates an enemy, fatal mistakes can happen and he imagines his battle with Tokio from Chapter 23/
Ever since Tokio’s return to Yamato Mori after a year in Iwato in Chapter 37, the two have been quite cold.
Although they have started talking a bit more recently, this scene indicates that the same inferiority complex, the Griffith-like desire to be Tokio’s hero, to stand above all, still remains in some shape or form, in Azuma’s heart.
Ely is relieved to hear this, likely understanding exactly what Azuma was thinking, and so she suggests that he run.
BB screams for Azuma to stop daydreaming and take Denku and the rest away.
However, Azuma refuses to run but to fight back, saying that it is too late for them to run.
At the end of the chapter, we see a field of dandelions, with many seeds floating up.
This was the image that appeared in Chapter 1 when Tokio and Azuma injected themselves with XEMBER, awakening their Choujin powers
Dandelions are Choujin X’s primary flower, just like red lotuses for Tokyo Ghoul.
Dandelions have only appeared twice, first in Chapter 1 when the boys gained their powers and by doing so, took the first steps to overcome their complexes and limitations as humans and now in thai chapter.
This flower does feature in the omake of volume 3.
The Dandelion represents “healing from emotional pain and physical injury alike”, as well as spiritual wisdom and, quite relevant to Choujin X, “the warmth and power of the rising.”
